                MASS Design Group, founded by Michael Murphy and Alan Ricks, was named the 2012 Designer of the Year by Contract magazine. The story of MASS Design Group is a story of young designers with tremendous vision, ideas, and energy coming together in collaboration and partnership. Murphy and Ricks were students at Harvard GSD when Murphy met Dr. Paul Farmer, the co-founder of Partners in Health. A conversation began, and a partnership was started in which Murphy and Ricks formed MASS Design Group and designed the Butaro Hospital in Rwanda in collaboration with Partners in Health.
