Jamie Bamber (Law & Order UK, Battlestar Galactica) and Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch) head up Sky 1's exciting new firefighter drama The Smoke. Written by Lucy Kirkwood (Skins), the eight-part series follows the high-adrenaline adventures of White Watch, a team of London firefighters. Rushes MGFX Studio were approached to breathe life into their existing title logo. Lead designer Matt Lawrence wanted to give the title a real world feel and so went about shooting elements and laying in shot smoke, sparks and fire textures to create a totally analogue title card. Matt comments, "I wanted to realise the logo reveal without using any digital effects or plugins, this way it would have a real world organic feel. Using a combination of shot plates and physically printed ink textures I was able to achieve this effect which complemented the gritty nature of the series perfectly". Production Title: The Smoke Production Company: Kudos Post Producer: Meg Guidon Element Shoot: Matt Lawrence After Effects: Matt Lawrence

Strong and simple was the overall design brief for Moonfruit.com's latest commercial. The internet based company that provides online platform solutions for business users wanted to showcase their growing customer base while also driving traffic to their site hub. The idea was to use real business users as the URL sandwiched between very specifically designed www. / .com bookends, for instance the bike shop text was treated with a metallic, industrial feel whereas the ballet manufacturer was textured with silk. It worked really well; the nicely designed text sat either side of the main protagonist, tying the two together in a very visual way. 01:36

                    from Matt Lawrence / Added

"Coo-ee" - Jo and Petunia are back! One of the nation’s favorite public information films – Jo and Petunia – was given a 21st Century makeover, with the help of Rushes. The animated characters first appeared on our screens in 1968 urging people to dial HM Coastguard on 999 for coastal emergencies. The Central Office of Information (COI) has rescued the film from the archives on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) to commemorate COI’s 60th anniversary. The original film has been digitally re-mastered and its original features have been updated to reflect society today. With no more than a damaged 35mm print available, Rushes were able to bring the well-loved characters to life. The film was first re-graded in Spirit and then the footage repaired in Mokey and Flame. Rushes VFX artist, Richard White, made illustrations in Flame and Matt Lawrence then animated them in After Effects. In addition to the restoration work Rushes were also asked to make some additions to the existing animation, to reflect today’s society. Petunia, still voiced by Wendy Craig, is now listening to an iPod and reading a glossy gossip magazine. Joe’s knotted hanky has been swapped for a trendy check cap and he dials 999 from his mobile phone when they finally realise a man at sea needs help. Wendy Craig, the actress who provided the voice over for Petunia, comments: “I hope people who saw the film first time around will have fun spotting the changes.”

Shloer BBQ and Sunday Lunch Following on from idents created by "The Unit" I was tasked with creating two new idents which introduced a new sparkling fruit juice flavour Rosé into the end reveal. Built entirely using Cinema 4D the bottles also required the updated label artwork applying to them and condensation adding to the bottles and glass. Final logo reveals and text animations were completed in After Effects. Final mastergrade and tracking of the video into the glass was completed by Adam Watson in flame using grading mattes and tracking markers supplied by myself.

                      Tags

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
