This documentary short focuses on John Reuter, a Gorham, Maine resident and world-class pinball player. John has slowly built a personal collection of over 100 pinball machines, most of which are set up in his home and are able to be played with the flick of a switch. John recounts his early pinball-playing days, talks of his zeal for the game and the worldwide community that surrounds it, and relates his own pinball-tinged philosophy on life. Throughout the film the stunning artwork and craftsmanship of the machines is on display through their bells, buzzers and lights. The film is produced by students at the University of Southern Maine.

Northeast Historic Film: They Don't Make Mackerel Like They Used To. Dr. Ernest G. Stillman shot 15 reels of summer activities around Mt. Desert Island, and Cranberry Island, Maine in the 1930s and 40s. Mixed in with his home movies is this footage of tuna-fishing in the 1950's off the West Coast. Despite Dr. Stillman's title, as seen here, "Jigging for Mackerel", they are not mackerel, and this film does not depict fishing in Maine. It's a mystery! Dr. Stillman (1884-1949) was a summer resident of Northeast Harbor, Maine who practiced medicine and conducted pulmonary research. His philanthropic work included supporting the Fisher Museum at Harvard Forest in Petersham, Mass., underwriting the Harvard Forest dioramas. His son donated 15 rolls of home movies to Northeast Historic Film. Visit NHF at www.oldfilm.org.
