Hi. My name is Chloe McCabe aka "Rookie No 1" and I am really really hoping that I get to go with Blue Zoo to Australia to learn and experience all there is to know about marine conservation. Although we are much smaller than Australia, Ireland is an island too with lots and lots of sea creatures that need our help. Hopefully what I learn in Australia, if I am successful in my application, will help me to be part of marine conservation in Ireland in years to come. Share my journey at www.rookieno1.wordpress.com

In August of 2013, the newest addition to the Sea Shepherd fleet, the Sam Simon, sailed from the Southern Operations Base in Melbourne to Sydney, Australia. Docking in Circular Quay, the crew of the Sam Simon were welcomed by a cheering group of supporters and over the next two days, the ship greeted thousands of locals who checked the Sam Simon out for the first time. The support that we received in Sydney was hugely inspiring for the crew of the Sam Simon, as the entire fleet works around the clock to prepare for our upcoming Antarctic Whale Defence campaign, 'Operation Relentless'. Tourism and Recreation: Maintaining the Attraction of Coastal Destinations People in the town of Abrolhos, Brazil, have discovered that whale-watching off their coast is bringing in tourism. As whale activity recovers from decades of hunting in the 1980s, villagers are discovering that whales are worth far more alive than dead. Their story is an example of how protecting one marine use (defined as "biodiversity" in the Ocean Health Index) results in higher scores in another (tourism and recreation).

Some 960 kilometers off the coast of Ecuador, the Galapagos Archipelago is famed throughout the world for its unique plant and animal species. Sea Shepherd has always considered the Galapagos one of the world’s last untouched wildernesses. But even in this remote part of the world, human encroachment is taking a heavy toll on this fragile eco-system. Sea Shepherd considers Galapagos an ongoing campaign and possibly one of the most important in our history as well as for the survival of the human race. After all, if we can’t protect something as unique as the Galapagos Islands, we are doomed as a species. In this short film, produced in 2011, we present to you the work that we have been carrying out in order to assist in the protection of the Galapagos Marine Reserve and the life within it. www.seashepherd.org/galapagos
