Here's a sneak-peek at one of SDG's Festival Presenters, Kim Vetter! Join us for our Sacred Dance Festival, "Dancing on Waves of Grace" from July 24-July 29 at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. For details, visit sacreddanceguild.org. "I will be presenting an excerpt from a longer piece of mine (premiered in 1996), "Cachoeira". Cachoeira means waterfall in Portuguese. This dance is based on the devotional movements for the Orixas Oshun and Yemanja, and was dedicated to my grandmother, Lena. In the African Diaspora in the northeast of Brazil, Oshun is the Orixa of fresh water and Yemanja is the Orixa for salt water. The dance was choreographed for 18 dancers and 6 musicians and was originally 25-30 minutes long. I will adapt the piece for whatever number of dancers will perform with me from the festival participants. I will be using taped music by Dudu Tucci as well as live singing performed by the festival participants and me. I expect the piece to be approximately 10 minutes long." - Kim Vetter Music: Traditional, arranged by Kim Vetter Additional music by Dudu Tucci Choreography by Kim Vetter
