MemphisLibrary.org Mini-libraries are now available for MATA bus riders at the Memphis Area Transit Authority's Downtown Memphis location! When the Friends of the Library wanted to encourage more people to read, they teamed up with the City Of Memphis, the Memphis Public Library & Information Center, and MATA to create BOOKS on Buses, mini-libraries for citizens to enjoy while waiting for the bus. Riders can borrow a book, take it along with them, return it later, or even add it to the collection! Mayor A C Wharton, Jr., Director of Libraries Keenon McCloy, Friends of the Library volunteer Sherman Dixon and MATA's Alison Burton were all on hand to kick the program off and explain why BOOKS on Buses is an ideal way to support literacy in Memphis.
