A Hyper Island - Exploring Motion Project Subsurface is a film based on the words 'Mediated Evolution'. Based on this open term we had four weeks to make whatever we wanted. We decided to go for a microscopic level medical animation style film, and explore different 'universes' within that setting. Enjoy. Back in the day, I did this. A visualization of the poem »die Unsterblichen« by Hermann Hesse. The poem is featured in his novel »Steppenwolf«. The entire material was shot on a Canon 500 D. I borrowed the music from an album by HECQ, the track is called »0011«. http://xaverxylophon.de

Most of all, Brainside is a statement and message to encourage collaborations between science and art. This animation is a storytelling experiment for medical visualizations. In contrast to classical images of this genre which appear very distant and sober usually, Brainside runs another path by making use of cinematic devices when helming a cerebral infarction (stroke). A stroke of fate for millions of people suddenly gets massive and threatening with the cruel beauty of a nature catastrophe - all taking place in an hidden microcosm. // Award winner at Koordinatenfestival in Kiel (Best stereo 3D movie) // Nominated in Categorie Animation at ÉCU, European Film Festival in Paris // Award at Nanospots in Halle // Award at MB21 (Deutscher Multimediapreis für Kinder und Jugendliche) in Dresden View the stereoscopic 3D version on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtrYLSogdgg&feature=channel&list=UL Special thanks to Prof. Christian Mahler, Achim Bahr (academic advisors) and Karsten Schuhl who produced the sound design and composed the soundtrack.

Sea Odyssey was one of the most complex events Liverpool has ever seen, set over 3 days and featuring giant puppets towering 40 feet over an estimated crowd of 600,000, this event by French street theatre company, Royal de Luxe, celebrated Liverpool's Titanic Centenary through a tale of love, loss and reunion. Working with design studio Black & Ginger I produced an animation featuring the Girl Giant's Journey which, shown across major Liverpool City advertisement screens, acted as a teaser campaign for the event receiving over 175,000 hits online. In addition Microcosm contributed to a wealth of print collateral used across print, signage, web, an app and notably a limited edition screen-print that featured on the cover of marketing magazine The Drum.
