      • Sneak Peek: Designing for Injection Molding and 3D Printing in SolidWorks

        from Digital-Tutors / Added

See more: digitaltutors.com Throughout these lessons we will learn how to design for rapid plastic injection molding as well as 3D printing. This will include taking advantage of design intent to help us create parts that are fully editable after the assembly has been created. We will also learn how to design internal bodies and assembly components into these parts. After generating our CAD model, we will take it to the next step with some realistic rendering. All of these techniques are currently sought after in the Industrial Design world and having a clear understanding about how plastic parts are made from sketch to production will help you become a well-rounded designer.

Kkervvit is an innovative business at the interface between design and digital production. We explore the influence and utilization of CNC technologies, design computation and automated production on creativity and self-expression across scales, mediums or disciplines. We have a long tradition in mold making and plywood processing, thus carefully select the best local veneers and adhesives in order to produce high quality panels that we form in a variety of thicknesses and molds. We employ systemic 3D modelling and multi-axis CNC subtractive manufacturing and material processing for the implementation and realization of wide range of artifacts that range from full scales prototypes to whole production series as well as intricate architectural and design structures and components.

UCLA_IDEAS_M.Arch II The course requirement was to utilize robotic motion within a fabrication technique. My group began by investigating methods of fabric formwork. In our experiment with fabric formwork we were interested in exploiting the inherent properties of the relationship between the plasticity of concrete and the rigid final, cured form. We questioned the notion of a column and asked ourselves how we could deviate from the traditional surface qualities while still maintaining the structural capability. Essentially, we aimed to create concrete columns using the fabric to manipulate the promiscuity of the liquid concrete by pushing its elastic quality to the limit with the help of robotic arms. Thus, creating a final, structural form, which would be impossible to achieve through manual methods or any other type of formwork technique. Our process was as follows, cast a number of tubes within a fabric that expands, which gives us more length to exploit, and then utilize the robotic arms to twist these tubes around each other to create a thicker, structurally stable column. Prior to our final tests, we experimented with a number of different fabric materials, stitching techniques and concrete mixtures, in order to fully understand the capabilities of each element.
