Oh, how I love sunsets by the sea... This video shows a couple time lapses of a calming, beautiful sunset by the sea from Marina State Beach! Just sit back, relax and enjoy the sounds of the sea while at the same time, watching the winter sun slowly set into the vast Pacific Ocean... It was my own mini outing by the sea! Marina State Beach, at the Reservation Road exit just off Highway 1, has a sandy beach and steady winds that make it a popular place for surfing, kite flying and even hang gliding. Sunsets at Marina State Beach are a daily community event, bringing out locals and visitors alike, just like myself! *Summary of my outing: It was that special time again when I made a road trip to the beach. This time, I went south to Marina State Beach in Marina, CA. Of course recently, I've always been going up north to San Francisco and I am starting to miss the coastline south of Santa Cruz! Since gas is cheap in recent days...and since the weather was pleasant...and there was no coastal fog or clouds hugging the coastline, I was encouraged to make this trip...a trip to see an ocean sunset! It's been a while since I've seen the solar disk actually clearly touch the ocean horizon (and no the ocean sunset from just last month at Lands End doesn't count since there were too much high clouds on the horizon). After chilling at home and watching the movie, The Mask of Zorro, I left to head to Marina State Beach shortly after 3 p.m. It was traffic in some parts (especially just leaving home) but I have made it to the place safely just after 4:15 p.m. The weather was perfect and there was hardly any wind. At the time, there were big waves! Apparently I have came during the 'king tide'. The king tides occur when the Earth, Moon and Sun are aligned at perigee and perihelion, resulting in the largest tidal range seen over the course of a year. I made my 'camp' area and then just enjoyed the views around the beach, while taking self portraits and whatnot. Then as the sun started to inch closer to the horizon, I moved up on a leveled area on the beach and began my ultimate reason as to why I came here...a sunset by the sea! *click, snap, click, snap*... After the sunset, I went back up to my car and chilled there a bit until early evening. As I was actually about to leave (I even turned on my car), I saw the moon and Venus up above over the dusk skies. So why not stay for some astronomy shots, too! So I went back out and I managed to capture an alignment of the moon, Mars and Venus (which I also forgot about)! The heavenly alignment above the Monterey Peninsula below was a dazzling sight... All in all, it was a successful day. Next stop....Carmel-By-The-Sea? (Outing taken place on Friday, January 23, 2015)

This video shows a lovely, calming ocean sunset from Marina State Beach, located around Marina, CA, just off highway 1.
