Some three years ago I had the pleasure of spending just under a month in Australia courtesy of Wine Australia. Over this time in interviewed and posted interviews with innumerable Winemakers, but towards the tail end of my trip my computer began to have a little trouble and so many of the later video files were lost or badly corrupted. Just the other week I was speaking with Hillebrand Winemaker Craig McDonald. Having recently returned from a trip to his homeland, he was singing the praises of Tasmania's Conor Van Der Reest, a lad from North Bay, Ontario who has been at the helm of Winemaking for Moorilla for what will shortly be coming up on a decade. I suddenly remembered my archived copies of those corrupted video files, and put my mind to piecing them back together and attempting to repair the damaged sections. Sadly a lot of the interview video was too far gone, but I did manage to retrieve enough of the audio to produce a video, supplementing the video with footage shot around Conor's workplace, deep in the (literal) bowels of the infamous MONA art gallery. It just goes to show you, where there's a will there's a way. Sorry it took me so long Conor!

This week we go to the land down under ... and explore the Australian craft beer scene, and our tour of Australian Craft Beer is led by everyone's favorite craft beer mule David of DavidA330 twitter fame. We start off with Stone & Wood, Pacific Ale which is hopped with Galaxy hops, and generally only put on Draught .. Brewed by: Stone & Wood Australia Style | ABV American Pale Ale (APA) | 4.40% ABV Then we move on into a Belgian Ale Hybrid from Murray's Brewing Co., called Punk Monk. Punk Monk is a hybrid of 3 different Belgian beer styles influenced by Saisons, Belgian Blond Ales, with a nod to Belgian Trippels, but is none of those styles. Brewed by: Murray's Craft Brewing Co. Australia Style | ABV Belgian Strong Pale Ale | 7.50% ABV Next up, is the Black Wattle. The Wattle tree, the first to bloom in the summer, with it's golden flowers, produce a wattle seed that they use to spice this beer with. We planned on doing a Master Pairing with this beer, but never got it filmed. :( Sorry. Brewed by: Barons Brewing Company visit their website Australia Style | ABV Herbed / Spiced Beer | 5.80% ABV We then move on to Moo Brew Dark Ale, from Moorilla Pty Ltd. an American Brown Ale, that David "could sit on all day".. and we chat about the lack of high ABV beers in the Australian Scene. Brewed by: Moorilla Estate Australia Style | ABV American Brown Ale | 5.00% ABV Last, but certainly not least, we dive into Double Hightail Ale from Mountain Goat Beer, an Amber Ale, and the highest ABV of all the beers we tried coming in at 7.2%. Brewed by: Mountain Goat Beer Pty Ltd Australia Style | ABV Amber Ale | 7.20% ABV Overall we enjoy our walkabout through the craft beer scene and look forward to seeing what our craft beer brothers down under have in store for us in the future.
