This was an experiment in trying a few 2.5D techniques. I'm most likely going to continue to refine it, but this was what I was able to come up with on a first pass for an active movie poster.

        • Step Up All In Behind the scenes of Movie Poster photo shoot with Monte Isom

When Summit Entertainment tapped me to shoot the Movie Poster for Step Up All In I was super excited. Every time I have worked with dancers in the past they took direction exceptionally well. The phenomenal cast of dancers cast for this movie did not need my direction at all. I simply let them know where their mark was, what mood we were looking for and let them do what they do best as seen in this Behind the Scenes video. We shot on a standard white seemless dry set and then onto the fun water tank set complete with fountains. The water tank was made by Dean Wadella and Stewart Handley in Vancouver. They worked hard to ensure the water was warm enough for the talent to jump in without freezing. Fortunately the talent never balked and once in we almost couldn’t get them out. The energy from the dancers was endless. The break dancing Monster was exhaustible. Twitch kept nailing the same move without flaw. Andi and Sean had incredible chemistry that made it so easy for me to photograph sexy images for the key art. The amazing thing is that single image of them used on the movie poster is almost identical to the in camera capture. The water set proved to be so much fun. It reminded me of being in a water fight as a kid. Here I gave the dancers direction to use dynamic movements that would be accentuated and enhanced by the water spray extension. Check out this film in theaters everywhere August 8th. #stepupallin #monteisom

            from Stuart Paciej Added 741 12 2

Aired since the beginning of April '14 this promotes the current NBA Playoffs season by creating false fly-posters for 6 of the strongest teams in the running. All layouts / illustration and typography was created from scratch and the promo completed over 3 days with me as the sole artist. I had a pretty sweet looking tornado for Oklahoma originally but this had to be swapped out as it was deemed in poor taste...doh. Director / Producer Matt Leeson.

Here's a trailer for a new tutorial available at www.LearnFromJoeyL.com In this tutorial, I cover the production and lighting techniques used to bring to life National Geographic Channel's "Killing Lincoln" advertisements. On this particular assignment, my job as a photographer was to study rough conceptual sketches and translate them into engaging photographs with light, shadow, composition, and expression. I dissect and explain the lighting techniques used in each key photograph step by step. Using toy bobble-heads and miniature lights, my goal was to shrink an otherwise overwhelming setup into bite-sized explanations.

This is my reflection for my Rich Activity: Retro Styled Based Poster for the Vector Illustrations Unit. With my rich activity, coming up with a retro style based poster was actually a really hard task. I couldn't think of what kind of movie, or video I should turn into a retro poster; but I decided to go with Pokemon. The Pokemon I created were the Pokemon without their key components and main features; to me it makes the Pokemon look more retro based, without a face, outlines, etc. Illustrating went well this activity, but coming up with a background took a while. I went through 3 different backgrounds, until I finally decided with the final product. A simple gradient; somewhat like one of the backgrounds for one of the actual Pokemon movies, and a pokeball with another Pokemon hovering over it. My favorite component of this poster is probably the “retro based” Pokemon I created using the pen and oval tool.
