1. Tatshenshini

The Tatshenshini may just be one of the most beautiful rivers in North America. It starts as a small creek, and becomes nearly a mile wide at the confluence with the Alsek. Glaciers reach down to the river, and Alsek Lake houses monstrous icebergs and endless rain. This video showcases some of those images. Welcome to outer space!! Haha, here's a virtual tour of Upper Cherry at the low end of a runnable flow. This creek holds the title to some as the "Holy Grail of Class V+ Expedition Kayaking." At this level, some of the bigger stuff (Cherry Bomb) gets easier while other rapids get kind of stupid low (entrance to Double Pothole). The inflow to Hetch Hetchy was roughly 450cfs when we hiked in: http://www.dreamflows.com/graphs/day.531.php For more info on the creek, check out: http://www.kayakphoto.com/darinmcquoid/uppercherry.html Music: Lebanese Blonde - Thievery Corporation At the time of this upload, the Upper Cherry Creek area and the surrounding community of Groveland, CA are experiencing one of the worst wildfires in California's history.

3 days of backpacking through the Ventana Wilderness. Day 1 was a pretty easy hike to Sykes Hot Springs where we were able to rest up for 2 aggressive days of harsh terrain. The trails are overgrown and it was a constant struggle of bushwhacking, climbing obstacles, and backtracking lost trails. Lots of fun, I recommend it to anyone into backpacking. Our route was Big Sur Station to Sykes for day 1. Sykes to Rainbow Camp for day 2 (although we were trying to get to Cold Springs Camp). Rainbow Camp to Timber Top and down to Highway 1 for day 3. http://www.ventanawild.org/trails.html

In the fall of 2011 Cyclists pioneered The Virginia Mountain Bike Trail, an off-road connector route spanning the length of Virginia's Allegheny & Blue Ridge Mountain Ranges. These riders returned to the commonwealth's early american frontier, in search of recreational resources. Their purpose was to connect public lands in Virginia's mountainous border region. The group embarked on a mission with the intent to establish a permanent long distance backcountry trail that rivals the infamous Arizona or Colorado trails. What they discovered was a world class back-country expedition; as they linked 8 major trail systems in the George Washington and Thomas Jefferson National Forests. Their route, consisting of primarily single track trails, covered 480 miles and climbed 65,000 feet over the course of 12 days. Beginning just west of Strasburg, the explorers began their journey on the County Line Trail. They rolled southward along rocky ridgelines, challenging climbs and fast descents and after two full weeks, the riders finished their final descent down the Iron Mountain Trail to Damascus.

I was hired by Technicolor to shoot a time lapse of their booth being constructed at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Las Vegas Convention Center. I have a new found respect for what it takes to setup one of these booths including the time, materials, and the people involved. The time lapse is made up of 4,999 photos shot over the course of 6 days and 1 minute between shots. Canon 7d, 16-35mm, exposure 1.3" & f9. Interior booth shots captured with the Nikon D300s, 12-24mm lens and secured with the Joby Gorillapod Focus (love this toy). 1.3" & f11 exposure , 30 second interval. Cropped to 1920x1080 and exposure & color tweaked in Lightroom 2.
