1. Hyper & Shotgun Indoor Shootout: AT4053b Vs. Rode NT3 AND NTG-2 Vs. NTG-3

    from Chad Johnson Added 8,225 33 57

This is my second shootout between the Audio-Technica AT4053b and the Rode NT3. I didn't like the results of the last shootout, so I tried it again in a different room. This time I also engaged the AT4053b's low-cut filter, but didn't hear much (if any) difference in my voice. The more I use it, the more I like the AT4053b. I find it rich and full. BUT WAIT!!! I also threw in a shootout between the Rode NTG-2 and NTG-3 used indoors, though shotguns are designed for outdoors. I also A-B-C-D compared all 4 mics used indoors hoping to show how bad it is to use a shotgun indoors, HOWEVER I found that it wasn't that big an issue in this test.

A few people have asked me to compare a few different set ups for mics with the 7D. I test the 7D on-board mic, the NTG 1, and the NTG 2 with the Rode mics plugged into the Zoom H4N. Then, I replay the NTG clips with some small improvements made in Soundbooth. Let me know what you think.

Here we jump in the studio while we have a Tascam HS-P82 8 track recorder on loan (thanks Tascam!). What a great opportunity to test out 8 unique mics at the same time! We've been curious as to how some of the expensive and not so expensive mics would do with a real world, common problem: a loud, noisy device that we can't control. Critically listen to how the mics faired.... I just got a Rode NTG-2 shotgun to use with my Canon T3i(50mm). I am not using Magic Lantern. This part of the video has audio adjustments made in FCPX. The second part os raw with no edits. I did this to show you how much static you get when plugging a mic directly into your DSLR. I used an XLR to 1.8 cable. You can purchase the package here... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/481528-REG/Rode_NTG_2_Condenser_Shotgun_Microphone.html

            • Sound Test - HV20 vs Rode NTG-2 Mic

              from Nathaniel Meyer Added 4,572 2 9

This was a test to determine the difference in audio quality when filming indoors between the HV20 (stereo) and Rode NTG-2 mic (mono). There are 5 tests, ranging from testing the frequency response, clarity, reverberation, and 360 degree movement. The camera was placed eye level with the speaker, approximately 4 feet away. Mic gain was reduced to -25dB and speaker volume was increased in order to prevent ambient noise from interfering with the recording. The NTG-2 was situated above the camera in a Rode SM3.

http://www.beachtek.com/ DESIGN -Every aspect of the DXA-SLR PRO has been designed with the cinematographer in mind. From the intuitive controls and high-quality preamps, to the form-fitting ergonomics and a sturdy aluminium chasis, this is a highly capable HDSLR audio adapter. MONITORING -Lacking a headphone output and level meters, most HDSLRs lack the basic monitoring capabilities that are standard on pro video cameras. Recording audio without being able to listen to what the camera is recording is like shooting without a viewfinder. Several crucial monitoring features are included in the DXA-SLR PRO to ensure that audio issues are identified before and during the shoot. XLR INPUTS -The DXA-SLR PRO makes it possible to use professional microphones that require XLR connections. Two high-quality Neutrik XLR inputs ensure a noise free recording chain, even for longer distance cable connections. AGC DISABLE -The AGC Disable feature reduces the hiss that normally occurs when certain HDSLRs record audio during quiet moments. This is accomplished by delivering an inaudible tone to the camera to force down the recording level consistently throughout the recording. This allows you to use the adapter's cleaner preamps for adjusting the volume of each input. LIMITERS -Limiters are an essential feature for recording unpredictable sound levels, without distortion or clipping. Each of the two channels on the DXA-SLR PRO feature independent limiters that keep the audio levels below 0dB to prevent signal overload.

An old Japanese lady talks about her experiences in life with a young Hispanic boy. There is an obvious language barrier, but this do not seem to bother the joy the kid brings to the lady's life. Shot on my HV40 and used a boomed NTG-2 hooked up to an H4n for the dialogues. I directed, shot and edited this piece for Sky Ranch. READ THIS FIRST: This video was created for Sky Ranch to use during live events before and during their summer camp program. The audience will experience live interaction during the video, so there are scenes that are timed in a way to allow live elements to take place while the video is playing. Because of this, certain scenes (the classroom scene mainly) may seem to lag or not make as much sense momentarily when viewing the video outside of the live event. The actors (Sky Ranch staff) are all non-professional actors but did a great job and even filled in as crew members when needed. Cast: Weather Panda - Jill Pfalser Theater Panda - Clinton Pfalser Teacher Panda - Tamara Brock Fireworks Panda - Malcolm Pettigrew The guy in every scene - John Morgan I want to thank Mike Holbrook at the Lake Country Playhouse in Mineola, TX for letting us use the theater concession stand for the theater scene. www.inlightprod.com www.skyranch.org www.lakecountryplayhouse.org

Ouija tells the story of Zoe (Jodie Hyde) during her birthday campout with her best friend Anna (Bryony Harper). Ouija is the potential beginning of a feature length story about the connection between Zoe's dad; Simon (Larry Waller) and the Ouija board which has been handed down through many generations of the family. When the girls start playing around with the Ouija board, the true powers of it are unleased. The true meaning of the Ouija board in this film are very much left to the audiences imagination, however there is more of the story to be told perhaps at a later date. Shot on location in Belper, Derbyshire. Soundtracks by Ólafur Arnalds & Video Copilot (Pro Scores).
