from Best of Fenix LIVE Added 92 1 0

Tribe of The Red Horse delivers the guitar tone, harmonies, and raw energy that Neil Young and Crazy Horse are known and loved for. According to lead singer and guitarist Wayne Whitzell, “We don’t play dress up. We play rock ‘n roll.” Their mission isn’t to make a buck, but “celebrate [Young] and his music and point other people towards his music without being a caricature of him.”

        • Sound Quality 2: Digital Boogaloo

          from Music Library Association Added

Andrew Justice (University of North Texas) In this sequel to a presentation given at the 2013 San Jose conference, the world of digital recordings and sound quality will be explored: the histories and attributes of digital sound platforms (Compact Discs, digital tape and various file formats) will be discussed, along with side-by-side comparisons of different ‘major’ platforms to consider the listener’s experience. Special attention will be paid to compression, how it affects popular services like Naxos, Alexander Street, Spotify and Pandora, as well as the recent movement toward high definition formats, including HDtracks and Neil Young’s recently-unveiled Pono music service. The goal of the presentation will be to enhance attendees’ understanding of the various issues at play in the current (and potential future) climate of sound recordings and how they relate to our work with collections and patrons’ usage, as well as afford us the opportunity to test our own listening skills.

In the late 50’s and early 60’s I was sexually abused by a teacher at a boys boarding school in East Sussex and by a priest at my local church. But for over 40 years, I have kept the abuse a secret - too ashamed to tell people for fear of how they’d judge me. I knew one of my brothers had also been abused and suspected the other may have been but we have never talked about. When in 2004, I decided to confront my the past I was unprepared for the emotions it would provoke. “Breaking the Silence” follows my attempts to mend my relationships with my brothers and to confront the events of our childhood. It has not been an easy journey. As painful memories re-surface , so have old fears and resentments. A major source of contention between us is the question of whether or not we should reveal our secret to our mother, now aged 89. One of the hardest parts of surviving child abuse is making sense of it as an adult.
