Choreographic installation Materials: Composite plastic, Computer, Compressed Air Components, Mp3 Player. Dimensions: 5m x 4m x 1.50m “Vicious Circle” is inspired by the “The Industrial Revolution” and the subsequent changes in human development brought about by that revolution. It is a brutalist robotic structure and it is a representation of some of the fears I have with technology. The motion of the machine reminds me of the relentless movement of progress as the machine moves to its predetermined program, ignorant of its environment and unwilling to stop if anything gets in its way. Though paradoxically it is possible to see beauty within its movements as the life size cast hands rise and fall forming a swarm that flocks together like birds in a choreographed dance to Prokofiev’s “Dance of the knights". Thus reminding me that technology is a double edged sword and we / humanity have the possibility to decide which direction it will take.

This video is part of an art installation called, The Roadside Seed Bomb. The Roadside Seed Bomb is one part of a larger collection of projects under the title, The Militant Gardener. The RSB is a bomb which is triggered by an excess of carbon monoxide, a major component of air pollution. When the air has a high enough concentration of CO black powder charges are ignited and the seed bombs(a mix of clay, humus, and wildflower seeds) explode in all directions. In an installation setting the RSB is placed in the gallery on top of a pile of soil. The video is projected on a wall a few feet behind the bomb. The first five minutes of the video plays on a continuous loop until a viewer crouches down in front of the bomb and blows into the carbon monoxide sensor. This triggers the sequence of explosions at the end of the video to play. After the explosions subside the default loop picks up where it left off. Visit www.theMilitantGardener.com to read the manifesto. By June of this year the site will also host several other projects.

The performance D.O.T.N.A.N.A. proposes a direct interaction between the public and the dancer on stage by the needs of a wireless mouse. In this manner the performance examines the scenic device and the question of representation according to the introduction of interactive media. In this 'one performer-version' the public interacts with the dancer on stage through an interface projected on the back of the screen displaying a schematic graphic of the body skeleton. Each graphical icon represents one of the dancer's body-articulations and where the displacement of one of the different elements is interpreted by the dancer movements in correspondence. Here both parts, the audience and the dancer negotiate a common play combining graphics with movement, music with dance. Recorded at Carré de Jalle,St. Médard en Jalle, France, 31/08/2004

A low current flows through the wire of a broken bulb, slightly heating it up. As people move through the space, the air surrounding them also moves. Cold air decreases the electric resistance of the wire and so also the voltage. A circuit senses the change of environment and actuates a fan. Amidst ashes, a couple of these units cover the space. So the dialogue between those present and those who pass by shapes a moving landscape. http://christophkilian.de

S.E.W.W. Search Engine, or browser, plays unquestionably vital role in the managing on the WWW (World Wide Web) and locating the required information, data and files in a sea of them. By definition, the browser is a specialized Web site whose main function is to help in finding information stored on other Web sites. Some search engines also search the data available in thematic groups, databases, or open directories. Unlike Web directories that are kept by the text editors (humans), these search engines work by algorithm, or a combination of algorithm and human inputs, i.e. by entering key words. The project "S.E.W.W." functions as a modified and controlled principle of creating a visual, textual, audible, motion, and other content and goes through three key steps: 1. human, text input 2. computer algorithm search 3. individual selection/manipulation of given results. "S.E.W.W." was conceived as an open project, that means, anyone can be part of this project/idea if he is ready to follow a concrete and specific recipe of work production (such as Fluxus method). This principle is also used for text, images (Google ...), videos (YouTube ...) and music (soul seek, share bear ...) so that works can be done in any medium, as long as it is present on the Internet.
