The recipient is prompted by the installation by a screen to control with his mouth the position of a CAD plotter, as soon as he opens his mouth. The installation with its irritating control plays with the desire to marking and it is a inciting disassembly of the benefit- and purpose-oriented society. • Nuve. Dance and Digital Art

from Joao Martinho Moura Added 3,107 39 2

NUVE (Natural Ubiquitous Virtual Environment) is an artistic project, developed by Joao Martinho Moura (http://www.jmartinho.net), that aims to explore the artistic possibilities offered by the digital dance performances in the interaction between the individual and his virtual double. In NUVE we conceptualized, developed and implemented a digital artifact, resulting in a fluid digital performance based on the theme of the analog body versus the digital virtual body. The digital artifact is intended to create a virtual character, a virtual persona, or a virtual performer, which will interact with the real performer, aiming to explore new fields in the area of digital art. The motivation for this project is to create a scenic spectacle driven by an interactive and generative digital artifact, designed to reveal the emergence of virtual characters, auto discovered and experienced in moments of artistic creation, exploring artificial extensions of what makes us human. ScareMail 2013 web browser extension ScareMail is a web browser extension that makes email "scary" in order to disrupt NSA surveillance. Extending Google's Gmail, the work adds to every new email's signature an algorithmically generated narrative containing a collection of probable NSA search terms. This "story" acts as a trap for NSA programs like PRISM and XKeyscore, forcing them to look at nonsense. Each email's story is unique in an attempt to avoid automated filtering by NSA search systems. • "Small Data" series (2014) by Daniel Canogar

                  from bitforms gallery Added

Daniel Canogar "Small Data" series, 2014 The process of excavation is central to Canogar’s practice. Works from his new series "Small Data" are comprised of overhead projections and salvaged devices, such as crushed computers, scanners, printers, old cell phones and hard discs. The artist pulled each item from piles of discarded materials in junkyards and recycling centers–today’s veritable cemeteries for consumer electronics. The found objects are organized on shelves, as if they were fragile remnants of a bygone era. Light seemingly reanimates these abandoned technologies, as video projections are precisely aimed at each object, crafting layered and painterly abstract narratives. Canogar’s animated installations capture our complex and sometimes ambivalent relationship with consumer electronics. “Buying the latest gadget makes us feel like sophisticated citizens of the digital age. Yet these technologies break down or are rendered obsolete at a fast pace,” says Canogar. Propped on shelves, the decaying technologies of "Small Data" are presented as contemporary still lives, insidious reminders of our own aging process and inevitable expiration date. As a collection of objects, "Small Data" explores the life and death of consumer electronics–and how when we discard our devices, we are throwing out a small part of ourselves. As tools for communication with the outside world, and as repositories for so many of our memories, we acquire a very intimate relationship with the technological devices present in the artworks. Haunted by these pasts, Canogar attempts to reveal the memories, both personal and collective, that seem trapped within, mementos of a time when they had fully functional lives and served us well.
