A series of discussions are held inside the famous SILO 468, a light art intervention on former oil depository in Helsinki. The session is challenging and debating the current role of light, natural, artificial, digital, responsive and participatory in the architecture and in the built environment. The event is created by the Lighting Design Collective (www.ldcol.com) in collaboration with urban futures sociologist Marco Bevolo. Each session is recorded and disseminated through architectural, urbanism and lighting press as well as through exclusive proceedings publication and a series of short films. The aim of the series is to further critical design thinking in context of light in architecture and to identify current and future issues essential for the advancement of theoretical and creative approaches in this field. WHY The whole lighting design profession is facing major crossroads and departure points at this moment in history: the emergence of LED’s in the last two decades met the rise of software-enabled controlling processes, resulting in what appears a paradigm change where products, systems and services remix business models and creative frameworks for both people and professionals. At this stage of the evolution towards the next generation of artificial light and the experiences, THINK-IN-A-TANK aims at establishing a reference conversation among experts and thought leaders within a self generated process of exploration and exchange. WHO The event is organized and hosted by the Lighting Design Collective (www.ldcol.com). An international creative industry firm specialized in advanced architectural lighting design (concept, software, scenography) with studios in Helsinki, Madrid and London in collaboration with Sociologist and futurologist Marco Bevolo who led the research behind the event. The participants are known design leaders and critical thinkers from the field of Architecture and research. Participation is by exclusive invitation only. The event is not public however the outcome will be made public through videos and online publications.
