We have now been working in Mandimba for two and a half years and the problem of malnutrition is now our major focus. Having secured funding for more waiting houses, we are now raising funds for a new nutrition centre. Dr D J Brown visits the rural district of Mandimba in northern Mozambique. Rather than beaches and sand, he finds people struggling to provide adequate care to the pregnant women of the area. He witnesses at first hand the horror caused by lack of facilities and training, but remains upbeat about the possibilities for change. _______________________________ DJ says: This video was shot by my friend Leo Lawson-O'Neil who joined me for my first two-week trip - probably against his better judgement. He did this without any remuneration. The film was edited (or perhaps better, salvaged) by the guys at GreenLions - again without any compensation. To everyone involved we are very grateful. As a result of this film, we raised several thousand pounds from generous sponsors. With this, we started a charity to help the people of Mandimba who, like Esnati, are resilient in the face of their poverty. You can see progress that we've started to make in the later video - which is also uploaded here on Vimeo. Please contact dj@ma-ma.co.uk for more information about the charity. The music in the film is recorded live and acapella from a spontaneous performance by a group of singers in the village.

Dr Jason Christopher visits Mandimba, in northern Mozambique, where the MaMA charity have been working for over a year to improve the health and economy of a desperately poor part of the world. He finds successes, but much more that needs to be done.
