1. SSU2014-3-06: Growing in Christ

    28:30

    from Sabbath School / Added

“Often times we do what we do because…well…because we have done them. In a recent PBS documentary, a survivor of the holocaust talks about when he was separated from his parents…the last words from his father were “do not forget our tradition.” It wasn’t do not forget our God or our religion…it was do not forget our TRADITION!....Often times traditions become more important than God. Perhaps in order to grow spiritually we need a tradition amputation…the death of an old limb…like pruning a tree…in order to grow rather than become complacently traditional.” --Falvo Fowler Scriptural Basis: Matt. 6:9–13; Luke 9:23, 24; John 3:1–15; 15:4–10; 2 Cor. 5:17. Key Text: “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God’ ” (John 3:3, NKJV). 1. What does it mean that it is only by dying that we may truly live? 2. In Jesus dialogue with Nicodemus (John 3:1–15), how did Jesus explain what it meant to be born again? 3. What does it mean to abide continuously in Christ? 4. How can the different parts of the Lord’s Prayer help us to grow in Christ? 5. How do healthy spiritual relationships contribute to our spiritual growth? 6. What does it mean in everyday terms to “die to self”?

According to the book of John, chapter 19, two men who secretly worshiped Jesus, Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus went to Pilate and requested to have the body of Jesus to prepare it for burial. They took the body of Jesus and placed it in a new tomb. Later, very early on the first day of the week, Mary went to the tomb and did not find Jesus' body. Jesus is not dead, He is a risen Savior! Please listen to Minister Joel Wilson as he teaches us about the resurrection of Jesus! He Lives!
