      • DOFA Speakouts: How we Protest

from Oberlin Financial Accessibility / Added

In the spring of 2015, Oberlin College announced its intention to increase tuition for the 2015-2016 academic year by almost $2,500. This hike fits within a pattern of increases which has seen Oberlin's tuition grow by over $15,000 in the last nine years! Oberlin students have again come together under the banner of financial accessibility to speak out against the tuition hike as well as other inaccessibility issues on this campus, such as workers' rights, anti-Blackness, and oppression of Oberlin community members.

This series of direct actions was inspired by Oberlin College's announcement that they are planning on raising tuition by $2,500 next year! This is space to make our voices heard not only in opposition to this financially inaccessible policy, but also about other inaccessibility issues on this campus (workers' rights, anti-Blackness and racism).

            • "Ptolemy (the cartograph) is Falling Asleep" [excerpt]

              from James Quintana / Added

Original composition composed to demonstrate the Panning by Amplitude over Planar Arrays (PAPA) algorithm, my original panning solution for nonstandard multichannel loudspeaker arrays. I composed "(the cartograph)" as the minor component to my junior year degree recital and thesis for the Technology in Music and Related Arts department at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. This video is an excerpt from the more substantial 28-minute piece. The piece is spatialized across twelve (in this instance) loudspeakers spread in a roughly regular triangular grid throughout a rectangular venue space (the Main Space in Oberlin's Wilder Student Union). The spatialization is computed using PAPA, my original panning solution, with a custom piece of software I wrote for Mac OS X precisely to implement PAPA. This video and all its contents are copyright (c) 2015 by James Quintana.

We have smart fun! This is a short video of some of the projects during our Maker Club class taught by Kristen Sutcliffe. The kids designed and built marble runs, cardboard pinball machines and all sort of awesome projects that really worked!
