            • Gay Marriage in Ohio

              from Brittany Green Added 178 0 0

Analysis 1. In this production, I tried to offer both viewpoints without giving one more weight than the other. I gave both views equal time in the production as much as possible. I presented the facts in an unbiased way by not giving my personal opinion or saying that they were a good thing or a bad thing. Any opinion contained in the video is from the interviews with Ryan or Dr. Bing. 2. My production contains some bias because I do not have an interview representing the viewpoint that gay marriage should be banned. This was unavoidable as my interviewee failed to show up for the interview. I tried not to let my personal bias through too much in the interview, but it is possible that it came through a little bit in which clips from the interviews that I chose to show. Unfortunately, Ryan and Dr. Bing both seem to give a pro-gay marriage opinion, which is a little off balance. 3. Gay marriage in Ohio is currently banned. There are many people that believe the ban should be removed from the state’s constitution, as well as many people that are happen with the status quo. Ohio is one of 19 states that currently has a ban on gay marriage. The ban was created and added to the Ohio state constitution in 2004. Recently, senate bill 5, which was not passed, also contained language that set off the issue of gay marriage. SB 5 defined marriage as between a man and a woman a second time. Both of my interviews seem to believe that in the future, gay marriage will become more common and will spread to other states, especially as the younger generations grow up and begin voting. It seems that the younger generation might be more accepting of gay and lesbian people. 4. The uninformed audience member is probably someone that does not watch the news very often. They might not have an opinion on the issue, or it might be an issue that they have not given much thought to. This issue is fairly well known, so it is unlikely that the viewer will have no opinion at all on the topic. The uninformed viewer probably has not taken the time to listen to opinions from both sides of this issue. 5. The uninformed viewer should learn what legislation is currently in place, and they should take away what the current opinion is, and what reasons people have for believing in what they believe in. They see the opinion of an expert in the field of political science, the opinion of a young gay man who is active in the Berg Allies, and my narration and Dr. Bing helps to fill in details of what a person that opposes gay marriage might think about the issue.
