At the age of 85, Al Howard is quite possibly the oldest living and active one-man band on the planet. Weather and health permitting, just about everyday Al sets up his small eclectic trailer made to resemble an old covered wagon in front of Jimmy’s Catfish on Main St. in Grand Prairie and entertains passerby's with his one-man show of country, gospel and blue grass music. While driving down Main St. one day in December of 2009 I spotted Al and decided to shoot and interview him with the Handycam I had with me at the time. This was shot on a old Sony HDR-SR1 Hanycam

      • Artist statement: One-man band, Shadow play and the Song of Songs for Critical Art Ensemble, dOCUMENTA (13)

Artist statement: One-man band, Shadow play and the Song of Songs for "winning hearts and minds", Critical Art Ensemble, dOCUMENTA (13) live performance, enlightening, cut out and talk Date: Tuesday 24 July 2012 Time: 12:00 - 13:00 pm http://www.critical-art.net/WinningHeartsAndMinds/ : "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not art, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not art, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not art, it profiteth me nothing. Art suffereth long, and is kind; art envieth not; art vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Art never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, art, these three; but the greatest of these is art." I Korinther 13 / madege

              • Charlene Descends to the Occasion – A Short Musical

                from Doctor Pugh / Added

"Charlene Descends to the Occasion" is an 8 minute musical that includes a story and an original song. Download the short musical film at http://doctorpugh.com/?page_id=5. This is a short, 8 minute, musical film in a solo performance and solo production by me, Doctor Pugh as given in the credits to the video. I had a great time making this video! "Charlene Descends to the Occasion" includes a story and an original song, an acoustic blues-boogie shuffle, performed by a one-woman band -- actually, a one-crossed-dressed-man band. As Charlene, I sing, play a 7-string acoustic guitar, snare and bass drums, ride and hi-hat cymbals. Charlene is a hard working music teacher and hearse driver. She is a good person and a strong woman. Charlene's mate of 45 years has done her wrong and has been unfaithful. What will she do about this? What changes must she make? What song will she sing? Where will she go? "Charlene Descends..." is a musical in that it contains all of the elements of story such as character, conflict, change and premise and includes a show song, a song that heightens action and moves the story towards resolution and THE END.

2013 Telly Award Recipient. Durham-based Generation Companies asked me to craft a film introducing their unique way of developing, managing & operating their extended-stay hotels. Project was accomplished with only a 2-man crew. Shot with my Canon C300 and Zeiss CF.2 cine-modded primes. I also used Steve McWilliams's simple and useful EyeDirect device to allow me to run camera/audio while simultaneously conducting the interviews. This really wouldn't have been feasible without the EyeDirect, so well-deserved kudos to Steve. Dolly shots were done with an Ultra Dolly. Jib shots were done with a Kessler Pocket Jib. Special thanks to Tim Glover for walking me through the set up and lighting for the plexiglas screen shots before heading off to Australia. Much appreciated! I am hoping to show a demo of how we did that on my redesigned web site as soon as it launches if anyone seems interested in that.
