1. Basic Poaching Technique

    from Ray Fleser Added 462 0 0

This video tutorials teaches you the basic technique of how to poach a ball in rugby. Poaching is a defensive technique that is used to steel the ball from the attacking team. Although in a game situation, anything can happen and it is rarely as structured as seen here, practicing the basics can give the right foundation to improvise yourself at the tackle contest. To poach a ball: The attacker picks a line and runs at the defense. As the defender, make the tackle. Once the tackle has been established, get to your feet as fast as possible. You can hop up, off the ground, and turn as you do it. This will result in you facing your opposition. Release the tackler. For the sake of drills, muscle memory, and practice, exaggerate this movement. Step over the body, through the gate, so you are over the ball. Reach beyond the ball and scoop it; do not grab it. Scooping from behind will ensure you maintain possession, even if you get cleaned out after your poach. Keep you body low and ready for impact. Once you have poached the ball: Play on and continue downfield if there is no opposition. Look for an offload if you have support to your sides and a clear line for passing. Bring the ball backwards to the deck if you have support behind you, establish a ruck, and a new clean ball. FLESERFITNESS is not responsible for anyone hurt or injured performing anything seen here. • Chinese reignite ivory poaching in East Africa

        from Sam Farmar Added 1,235 1 0

Sam Farmar reports on the unprecedented wave of elephant poaching taking place across Africa - spurred on by a doubling of the international ivory price and the worst drought in East Africa for more than a decade. Many now feel they have little option but to poach to survive. After years in decline poaching is back and conversationalists are blaming the Chinese. China trade with Africa now stands at 100 billion US dollar annually a figure that is expected to increase by 80% in the coming year – with this level of investment African governments are reluctant to upset their fastest growing trading partner and clamp down on the illegal ivory trade to China. The number of elephants killed in East Africa has doubled in the last year and experts predict the extinction of elephants outside of protected parks as early as 2020. Currently the elephant death rate from poaching throughout Africa is higher than the annual death rate that led to the international ivory trade ban 20 years ago. Conservationists blame a decision to relax the law and allow the legal sales of stockpiled ivory, which they claim has reignited interest in ivory across the Far East.
