              • Top 10 Tips for Using itslearning Surveys in the Classroom

                from itslearning USA Added

A survey in itslearning is basically a questionnaire. Question types: You can have yes/no, open answer, multiple choice, or matrix questions. Options: A survey can be anonymous and even open externally so anyone can respond even outside of the class. Results: The survey results can be viewed manually, or exported to other formats such as Excel and SPSS. itslearning automatically creates statistics on the survey results, which makes interpretation of the results easy. Surveys can be used both in courses and in communities. It is also possible to make the survey available to external respondents (that is, respondents without an itslearning account). We going to quickly go through the top 10 ways teachers have shared that they use the built-in survey tool in itslearning. 1. Use the survey tool as a getting to know you survey at the beginning of the school year. 2. At end end of the term or course, give out a survey to find out what worked or didn’t work in your class! 3. Use the survey tool for a pre-reading opinionnaire to generate interest or to help students reflect on key ideas prior to reading a novel. 4. Use the survey tool to help students reflect on how well they worked together as a group and what they could work on the next time. (Be aware that you can even allow students to CREATE their own surveys using element permissions! ) 5. Many teachers report that they use a simple survey as an exit slip or a ticket out the door to gauge student understanding and determine direction for the next lesson. 6. If you use Communities, you might want to use the survey to allow students to nominate others or themselves for office. You can even use it to have students VOTE for the officers as well! 7. Create an external survey and send to parents. Here is an example of one about parents who may want to volunteer to help out in the class. 8. Embed a video into a survey and let students watch and reflect on what they learned, or to make a hypothesis. Remember the responses will be collated and statistics generated automatically! 9. How about an external survey for the judges to use for a science fair? Easy collating of responses! 10. And our last tip! Use a survey as a way for students to record their findings in a science lab. Here is one that helps student record how many drops of water they can put on a penny!
