1. Yoga Mama: First Moves. A gentle sequence for 0-6 weeks Postpartum

    17:41

    from Rachel Brooker Added 84 0 0

Generally it's recommended to wait to start yoga until at least six weeks after birth, but this sequence is carefully structured to be safe and healing for mamas from day one. Gentle moves help to lengthen tight muscles and bring awareness to tired core muscles so they can heal effectively, ending with a restorative pose to ease any lower back and pelvic discomfort and help pelvic ligaments regain their tone. Many midwives recommend that new mamas stay in bed for at least a week after giving birth, so this entire sequence is done lying down- it can even be done right in your bed with your little one beside you! Rachel Brooker developed and led this sequence with inspiration from Yoga for Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond, by Francoise Barbira Freedman. It was filmed by Shaena Mallett in Sommer Sobin's yoga space in North Carolina, as part of an online course Sommer is developing for new mamas. Thanks, Sommer and Shaena!
