When I realized that my cousin's wedding in Toronto was taking place in the month of September - I knew I had to make a companion piece to the earlier work 'December in Toronto' ( http://vimeo.com/18534513 ). The titles just complement each other so well. This time I journeyed with my partner Daniel. This is Toronto, in September, through the lens of one wandering gaze. A trailer for the upcoming documentary and web series The Telling. It is a documentary about a place and its people. That place is Prince Edward Island. Prince Edward Island has a human scale to it. A slower cadence to life. A real community network. But things are rapidly changing. Some change for the best, some perhaps not. This documentary is a love poem to a place, an exploration of a people. The Telling is a documentary that simply listens and looks at a landscape and its inhabitants. Some of the best stories come from one's own back yard. The Telling is a tale of a place that is unique, yet it is a tale that people around the world can relate to. Neighbours, friends, lovers, artists, business executives, farmers, fishermen, newcomers, seniors, children... who are the people in the place you live? www.onethousandflowers.tv

12 people. 4 cameras. 3 days. 1 town. www.inbetweenspaces.com IN BETWEEN SPACES is an experimental video project that explores the notion of a communal gaze. This collaborative documentary follows 12 individual perspectives from within a community; and through their eyes a sense of objective reality emerges. The community is Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. In the summer of 2011, I placed GoPro cameras in the hands of four people who filmed one hour of their lives over the course of 3 days. When their hour was up they handed the cameras on to four others of their choosing to repeat the process. This cycle happened once more and in the end, 12 hours of footage from the daily lives of individuals in Charlottetown was collected. I then acted as the organizing principle (with the help of original music composed by Roger Carter www.rogercarter.bandcamp.com) ordering and filtering these layers of perspective into a whole. The result is IN BETWEEN SPACES. www.onethousandflowers.tv Videographers: Donnalee Downe, Michael Wasnidge, Sandi Hartling, Mauricio Aristizabal, Christine Landry, David Phillips, Kelly Caseley, John MacKenzie, BJ MacCarville, Chrissy Cerminara, Corrie Cerminara, Matt Bowness.

When a trip back to visit relatives and friends takes on a quality of magic. The simple act of travel, even to familiar places can reset the routine mind to witness the miraculous in the ordinary. From my home on an isle in the sea, to the city of my birth; the urban ecosystem of Toronto. A quick audio test with the Zoom H1. A study of the weird and usually offensive salutations used by Prince Edward Islanders. We originally had a plan for this video, but as the beers went down we just started swearing at the camera. We did learn the workings and potential of the Zoom H1 though. The Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project is doing some ground-breaking work in forestry restoration and stewardship on PEI. This is the first of a series of videos celebrating forest life on Prince Edward Island. www.macphailwoods.org Macphail Woods currently manage over 2000 acres of public land; educate hundreds of youth annually through summer camps and school planting projects; cultivate native tree, plant, and flower species in their nursery; offer educational walks and talks for the public; host a university course through UPEI; and generally advocate for a healthy ecosystem on PEI and throughout the world. Their restoration of the acadian forest is regarded as some of the top efforts in their field. Here's to Macphail Woods' 20th year of operations! May the good work continue and grow.
