The newest teachers at Maury Elementary School haven’t been to college. They can’t tie their own shoes. They don’t speak much English. And they aren’t potty-trained. They are babies. Mostly bald, and completely mesmerizing. Maury is one of five Washington, D.C. elementary schools attempting to harness the disarming power of infants to help students recognize and deal with emotions in themselves and their classmates. The babies, in other words, are meant to help teach children how to be kind. From "D.C. classrooms welcome babies in effort to teach empathy" by Emma Brown (http://wapo.st/1uSHvw3), originally published in The Washington Post June 1, 2014

                  206 Plays / / 2 Comments

WE BELIEVE is the proposed story of a group of Chicago students at Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men (c/o 2010, 2011 & 2012), and their plight to adapt and succeed at the groundbreaking college-preparatory, while preparing for college, managing home life, interacting within the Englewood community, exploring prospects outside of their environment and steering clear of the growing gang violence that is plaguing the city of Chicago’s urban areas. The purpose of WE BELIEVE is to show an alternative way of educating urban youth, particularly Black males, while highlighting an inspirational story of achievement and hope. It gives an inside look to Urban Prep’s culture, management and overall goal to create future Black leaders of family, community, education and industry. In addition, it gives an at-a-glance look of a proud, but troubled Chicago south-side community that is at the cross roads. Update: I'm sorry to say that I was not given the greenlight for this project, but Urban Prep does have this video on their website. I'm extremely proud to see the class of 2010, 2011 & 2012 all go to college. Great Job Urban Prep family. Director/Producer: Tony Clomax Editor/Producer: Michael Croce DP/Sound: Roman Chrzanowski
