Lacta chocolate has been a symbol of love for ages in Greece. But in 2015, Lacta wanted to go beyond inspiring young people to find love and enable them to actually make the move. By introducing "Lacta Messages" unique QR codes were printed on every Lacta pack, that people could scan with their mobile phone and hide a message on every chocolate they gave to someone they liked. But instead of just producing a demo video, Lacta created an original web series, titled "Make the Move", in order to inspire users and showcase the app’s functionality. Five short episodes were released on Facebook & YouTube in the month leading to Valentine’s day. Audiences were hooked by the story, sharing thousands of likes and comments. The videos reached 7 Million total views in a nation of 5 Million internet users. Lacta Messages usage increased by 179% during the weeks the episodes were launched and exploded 17 times higher on Valentine’s day.

For many years in Greece, Lacta chocolate packages were used to compose handwritten love messages. But a change to a plastic wrapper, meant that people could not write on it any more... By introducing "Lacta Messages" unique QR codes were printed on every Lacta pack, that people could scan with their phone and hide a message on every chocolate they gave to someone they liked. But instead of just producing a demo video, Lacta created an original web-series, in order to inspire users and showcase the app’s functionality. The 5-part series proved immensely popular with audiences, who were captivated by the love story that began, with a message hidden in a chocolate! The videos reached 7 Million total views in a nation of 5 Million internet users. Lacta Messages usage increased by 179% during the weeks the episodes were launched and exploded 17 times higher on Valentine’s day.

        • Space Apps 2015, Exeter - Animated QR with human-readable elements

This animated QR contains identicon and two further variables. This was actually put together for the Exeter Space Apps Challenge as part of the LASSIE project (see https://2015.spaceappschallenge.org/project/lassie/). It is intended to give a human-and-machine-readable impression of the health of an individual, and if you scan it you will see that it contains a certain quantity of biometric data encoded as key value pairs, including: the pulse rate, respiration, body temperature, attention and meditation, the last two of which are taken from a NeuroSky headset, and some 'spacesuit zone health readings'. An observation timestamp/ heartbeat is also given , since some screens (such as e-Ink screens) may continue to show an old observation if they cease to update, and a timestamp makes it more evident that this is occurring. The shift to red coloration is imposed as a result of increase in key biometrics. The scenario in LASSIE is that we find that the key biometrics are unacceptably high and that there is now a risk to the person in question, which we would like to communicate to nearby agents/individuals, be they human or robot, so that they can respond appropriately. I admit to being slightly surprised that my phone is able to scan an animated, coloured QR code running at 25FPS (over twice the speed of this video) but it turns out that it can. Having checked, it actually works reliably up to 50FPS. It ceases to work around 60FPS, which is probably very close to the refresh rate of the screen, so this is probably not surprising.
