This video is for our Sponsume crowd funding campaign, made by the talented Rosie Powell. We hope to develop an alternative walking performance about eccentric characters who have lived in Brighton and the nature of eccentricity itself. There have been plenty of them, as Brighton has been a magnet for mavericks ever since the Prince Regent built his outrageous palace in the city. The show aims to be part performance, part audio guide and part treasure hunt, encouraging audiences to get involved in the action and engage with the idea that going against the flow or behaving unconventionally can be fun and life affirming. We did some work on the idea in October 2013 and presented some ideas to invited audiences, who were very positive and encouraged us to continue. We've applied for money from the Arts Council to develop the show, but we need to find match funding. We need to raise £1500 to enable us to work with a brilliant sound designer, who will create a series of fun and stimulating audio pieces that will form an important part of the tour. Plus, we need to secure enough money to pay the performers a basic wage, while allowing us to offer free tickets to people who would otherwise not be able to afford it. We would be enormously grateful if you could support the project. If you give us £10, we will give you a ticket to the show - so in effect, you would be paying for a ticket in advance. If you give us £25 we will give you a ticket, plus an invitation to an eccentric dancing party at the end of the summer (date and venue tbc). This will include an eccentric dancing lesson led by Desert Ivan Discs, plus some hilarious variety acts and the chance to dance your eccentric socks off. If we have enough takers, we will hold two parties - one in Brighton and one in London.
