        from ReNewable Now Added

As sustainability becomes a growing part of the educational DNA of schools, colleges, and universities around the globe the importance of community outreach and engagement becomes an integral part of the institution's mission. For Rhode Island College there is no shortage of reaching out to the community and hosting events that not only allow for their students to participate in, but also brings together the community, leaders, and innovators that actually result in positive growth and change. And we saw a great example of that back in September when Rhode Island College showcased their ribbon cutting ceremony of Alex and Ani Hall that brought community together, with the private sector for a joint effort that resulted in a beautiful new art center on the college's campus. In November Rhode Island College hosted a number of events, and ReNewable Now was very fortunate to be on location for their 2014 Sustainable School Summit that was organized in corporation with the Aperion Institute. The day saw a number of workshops having to do with everything from , Environmental Literacy/Sustainability Education to Green/Healthy Building, along with dignitaries and leaders who make it their mission to see sustainability on every level become more of the fabric of our daily lives. The event's keynote speaker was Akimma Price who for the past 20 years has worked with numerous environmental organizations throughout the United States, including the The New York Restoration Project and the North American Association for Environmental Education, creating and implementing innovative programs that build bridges into low-income communities. he is currently working through Cornell University helping run the EECapacity Project, the national environmental education training program of the EPA. Akimma's presentation is not only inspirational, but is also fun as she recounts here personal experience growing up with nature and how she found her passion for sustainability. We hope you take the time to watch, and enjoy.
