Great weekend paddling the Dart Loop, Spanish Fly style. Shame about some real low levels so the upper section wasn't running, but still made a good weekend Music: Lauryn Hill - Doo Wop (That Thing) Filmed on: GoPro Hero 4 Slver & Nikon D3100

This is the oldest coal fired paddle steamer still in operation, She was built in Dartmouth, South Devon by Philip and Sons in 1924 although her engines date from 1904. Apart from during the second world war (when she worked for the American Army) she carried people up and down the River Dart between Dartmouth and Totnes. This came to an end in 1965 and she fell into disrepair. Since then she has been fully refurbished by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (which took about fifteen years) and in 2012 she returned to the Dart. Her last trip of 2013 took place on September 9th and I was able to get a few glimpses as she left Totnes and again as she approached the landing pontoon in Dartmouth.

With a hard frost on the drive out over the moors and a bright morning sun it was looking to be an awesome day. The level was 0.70m on the Dunnabridge gauge. With all the heavy rain and extreme weather we've experienced this past month it seems all the silt on dartmoor has been washed away and because of this the rivers on Dartmoor are running crystal clear, alps like water.
