This video documents the assembly of the 8th house sponsored and built by Roanoke College in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley. Initial construction began on the Roanoke College campus on Friday, August 23rd and concluded on Tuesday, August 27th, so the house could be moved to its permanent location for further construction and completion. This is the first year that the first AND second floors were constructed on the Roanoke College campus as well as the first year that the roof was built separately and set aside to be placed atop the house. On Thursday, September 29th, escorted by the Salem Police and the Roanoke City Police, the house was moved moved in four pieces from the Roanoke College campus (in Salem, Virginia) to its permanent location on Patterson Avenue in Roanoke City. The house will move on to the next phase of construction through completion by our dedicated core of volunteers, members of the Habitrat for Humanity in Columbia, SC in conjunction with dozens of students from Roanoke College who will volunteer their time to finish what they started. How is this done? The majority of the construction of a Habitat home is done by volunteers. Supporting that dedicated core of volunteers, we have an amazing staff and, in this case, an incredible, hands-on, fiercely active sponsor. If you would like to know more about becoming involved with Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley, visit www.habitat-roanoke.org for more information. Although this video is clearly sped up, the entire process took the better part of the daylight hours. The footage was shot on two handheld cameras, so it can be pretty shaky.
