" It has taken 25 years of back and forth sparring between the residents, the city, the county, property owners, would be developers, the creek conservancy, planning commissions and other environmental agencies. 25 years and they finally have a foothold in the valley. But they are building on land where water is channeled to flow through; cutting through high value habitats of Coastal Sage scrub, upsetting natural ecosystems and threatening a number of listed endangered species. There will be an estimated 6,000 more car trips a day on these roads shutting down wildlife corridors for birds, the coyote and mountain lion. Rural life and agriculture will be tossed aside for urban development and profit. In a world in need of sacrifice it knaws at the spirit to watch these changes take place. You see, it’s not really about the creek or the dairy farms or the wildlife or the corporate projects. It is about human nature and the inability of man to change their thinking. Scientifically it may be impossible. We are predisposed to the proposition that survival means killing, raping, possession, control, fear and profit margin at all costs. Sacrifice and common sense decisions are all I’m talking about..." Robert Ganey. Video production and photos by Anders Tomlinson. Bob Ganey American Tourist is known to most as a performer but is recognized by some as a doctor - a "musical doctor" - this is not to be confused with a Cat Whisperer or a cat's whiskers. In this clip, Bob is preparing segments for Anders to edit. He then prescribes a harmonica audio cd, do any of you remember audio cds?, to play for Mocha the wonder cat. Matt Hartung, a teacher of business and media at Tulelake High School is seen in a cameo videotaping Bob in the video studio, "Unity Seven". The harmonica - guitar music is from "Passing Time", written and performed by Robert Ganey. An apple a day, along with a song featuring harmonica, keeps the doctor away - not that it isn't fun having Bob around. Shot along the California-Oregon border in Tule Lake Basin farmland, Tulelake, California. Filmed and edited by Anders Tomlinson. Additional video by Matt Hartung. Produced by Anders Tomlinson and Robert Ganey. ©2013 Robert Ganey and Anders Tomlinson, all rights reserved.
