      • 605studios: Missouri River Island Party July 3rd, 2015

        from EpicSkyShots.com Added 7,324 1 0

What was once an ignored island sandbar located on the MIssouri River just south of the bridges that connect Fort Pierre to Pierre, has now become a wonderfully designed boating destination. As a result of the flood of 2011, massive hydraulic pressures lifted and deposited a large amount of beautiful light sand on the island, creating a wonderful beach. These forces also carved an inner bay within the island, which perfectly plays the role of a shallow children's pool which has been a great asset for families. An even more fascinating feature, is that the Island has a self cleaning design...as the water level rises in the Missouri River, clean freshwater sweeps over enough of its body to replace stagnant water with fresh. Despite the massive damage created by the flood, the optimism of the citizens of central Sodak has resulted in the recognition of the Island as a gift from God. Visitors to the Island are encouraged to take care of it, be responsible, and pick up any trash. This ensures that this wonderful asset will be enjoyed by increasing numbers in the future.

                      from Junax Added 188 0 0

The beach culture hype is taken a notch higher with Brgy. Tajao’s Campalabo Islet, a sandbar. During low tide, the one-hectare pearlescent sandbar protrudes in the middle of a 15-hectare marine sanctuary, well-guarded by the local Bantay Dagat. The view is breathtaking with a sight of Mt. Kanlaon towering in the horizon, as well as the vast Tañon Strait where dolphins playfully summersault above the waves. As the turn of tides make way for Campalabo to emerge from beneath, a few rock formations nearby, locally termed as “paril”, appear where migratory birds from Olango Island take a halt.
