On day four of the 2011 SciGirls Camp, SciGirls I went to the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (TLCASC). They toured the facility, met some of the Center’s furry residents and even watched a spay/neuter surgery. They also learned about how to keep their pets safe from worms and pests, and how to keep them cool in the summer heat. One of our SciGirls, Alexys, said about the Center: “The dogs were really cute and they seem really friendly. And I don’t see why the cute little puppies weren’t adopted.” This video was shot by current SciGirls, and edited by SciGirls alumnae: Desiree Robinson Grace Dobbs Michaela DeLoach What is SciGirls? At the beginning of day 3, SciGirls I went on a hunt for bugs around the MagLab. They found grasshoppers, crickets, worms, and spiders to learn more about ecology; the study of how organisms in an environment interact with each other. After lunch, they worked with some engineers to build water filters. Water filters help get rid of any sediment that may be in drinking water.
