                • Exploring Virtual Reality with Zelda NES

                  This project aimed to create a virtual reality experience with The Legend of Zelda NES. Players are required to wear a harness and attach themselves to cables hanging from the ceiling. The cables lifts players just high enough off the ground so that their feet can just touch a sensor beneath their feet. As players move their feet, the character in the game moves as well. Players are also required to wear a glove on their right hand, a sensor on their left wrist, and a sensor on their chest. The glove allows players to communicate with non-playable characters through social gestures as seen here: vimeo.com/120089453. By using the glove in combination with the other two sensors I mentioned, players can use their weapons in the game. For example to swing their sword, players must do a slashing motion with the right hand starting from their left wrist. To fire an arrow with the bow, players must hold out both their hands as if holding a bow, pull back the imaginary string all the way to their chest, and release their grip. Finally, players should wear some sort of virtual reality headset to fully immerse themselves in the game.
