U.S. Army Spc. Tyler Vietti, a three-sport athlete who graduated from Central Valley High School in 2006, was killed in action in Afghanistan on Aug. 31, 2009. Tyler was a member of the 2005 Central Valley Falcons football team that went undefeated with a 12-0 record and won the section championship - the first in the school's history. At the JV and varsity football games on Sept. 4 between Central Valley and Trinity, video and photographic highlights of Tyler during that football season were shown, interspersed with other photos from his years at CVHS. This is that video. Camera operators: Ron Harrington, Craig Harrington, Don Hodson. Editor: Ron Harrington. Back in 2005, the Shasta Lake Bulletin produced a DVD of the Central Valley Falcons undefeated season where they went 12-0 and won the only football section championship in the school's history. On that DVD in the Special Features section was a short video of the Central Valley and West Valley junior pee wees playing a scrimmage during halftime of that year's Valley Bowl game. Some of those players will be playing each other Saturday as Central Valley travels to West Valley for the Division II championship. Can you pick out any of this year's players in this video? From Sean Moore: In reviewing the film, and comparing with an old roster, I have found the following. Logan German 34 Timmy Naylor 16 Kolton Naylor 44 Jordan Ryan 76 Connor Silveria 1 Dakota Jones 32 In looking at the rest of that Jr Peewee Roster and comparing with the current Varsity roster, I don't believe there is anyone else. Also, interesting fact, #33 in the film is Alex Talledino who is currently tearing up as WR at Enterprise. Also, I do have an email from the West Valley Jr Peewee coach back in 2005 where he had sent me his roster prior to the game. Some notables from that team will be playing as well, such as Austin Clark and Brady Cassleman, if you are interested. This is the complete roster if you want to compare with their current Varsity roster. West Valley 2005 Jr. Peewee Roster 2 Daniel Arnerich 3 Kyle Weiss 5 Ryan O'Connor 7 Dylan King 8 Toby Nunnelley 9 James Arnerich 10 Ty O'neal 11 Eryk Wehunt 16 Taylor Andrews 24 Justin Costa 35 Chace Savage 37 Austin Clark 40 Xavier Block 45 Brady Casselman 53 Turner Carnahan 54 Joshua Davaris 56 Austin Steele 57 Durham Pearson 60 Brandon Barentine 61 Brandon Popp 63 Nathaniel Hambleton 65 Dino Kemp 67 AJ Haley 71 Jeremy Williams 73 Zachary Jones 75 TJ Baugh 76 McKenna Basnett 81 Derek Turner 82 Dean McComas 88 Joshua Parker

SHASTA LAKE – It was an emotional night here Sept. 4 as Central Valley High School paid tribute to U.S. Army Spc. Tyler Vietti, the three sport athlete and 2006 CVHS graduate who died Aug. 31 in Afghanistan. “The emotion was extremely high,” Central Valley’s varsity head coach Matt Hunsaker said of Friday’s pre-game ceremony. “It was a great tribute to a fallen soldier.” That high emotional level transferred to the playing field as the Falcons scored five touchdowns in the first quarter on way to defeating the Trinity Wolves 55-12 in their opening game of the season. DAVIS - It was a big day for three north state athletes at the 59th annual Causeway Classic played here Nov. 17, 2012. UC Davis tight end Taylor Sloat (Fall River High School 2010) caught a career-high seven passes for 109 yards and caught the winning touchdown, while teammate and running back Colton Silveria (Central Valley High School 2010) rushed for team-high 88 yards on 17 carries in the Aggies 34-27 win over the Sacramento State Hornets. Also starting for Davis is right guard Jimmy Kunkel (Central Valley High School 2009). With the win, the Aggies sent head coach Bob Biggs out on a winning note following a 30-year career at Davis. Sloat, meanwhile, capped the season off by being named as one of seven Aggies to receive Honorable Mention in the All-Big Sky Conference selections. He also was named co-Outstanding Offensive Player (along with wide receiver Anthony Soto) at the team's annual post-season banquet. Ignoring threats of potential legal action, the Shasta Lake City Council on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, voted 4-1 to call for a special election to allow voters the opportunity to decide whether Councilwoman Dolores Lucero should be recalled from office. The vote came after an unidentified woman read a letter from an out-of-area attorney who said he represented a group called Shasta County Citizens for Justice. In the letter, which was addressed to the city council, attorney Andrew L. Jared stated that the proponents of the recall, along with Shasta Lake’s city clerk, violated procedures of the recall process and urged the council against calling for the special election or face possible legal action. But City Attorney John Kenny said that the only thing the attorney really stated in the letter was that the information he sought was not included in Tuesday’s agenda packet. City Clerk Toni Coates also noted that, by law, the special election would have to move forward whether the council called for a special election or not. Still, Lucero threatened that a lawsuit to stop the recall election would be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks. It appears the special election will be held on April 10 at which time voters in Shasta Lake not only will decide whether to recall Councilwoman Lucero, but also who should replace her if she is recalled. Potential candidates will be on the same ballot. Lucero’s term ends in December of 2014. See the video to view agenda items 6.1 and 6.2 from the January 3, 2012 City Council meeting.
