                    • Recognition and Adaptation of Personal Situations

                      from dime project Added 7 0 0

This video demonstrates the functionalities and interactions with the context-aware di.me userware, and it's ability to gradually learn how to recognise recurring personal situations. The video shows how a person can initially train the system to recognise their situation by manually 'activating' a situation. Over time, di.me will learn what context information is important for this situation. The automatically-computing matching score is shown in the situation list alongside the user-assigned name, as a percentage (e.g. 33%). In the video, a viewer can observe how the overall situation score increases, and also how the individual weights for the detected context elements increase (or decrease), to reflect what the system has learnt. This adopted approach is based on the idea that today’s personal devices provide a stream of information which, if processed adequately, can provide a better insight into their owner’s current activities, environment, location, etc. In treating these devices as part of a personal sensor network, raw and interpreted context information they stream is here exploited to enable the automatic recognition of personal situations. An ontology-based graph matching technique is used to enable automatic situation recognition. An experiment to evaluate its performance indicated that this method is suitable to rank the order of highly-likely situation correctly in 67% of cases. For more information, refer to the publication entitled "A Semantic Infrastructure for Personalisable Context-aware Environments", by S. Scerri, J. Debattista, J. Attard, Ismael Rivera (2014).
