Stock footage of the curfew protests on Sunset strip in 1966 with a soundtrack collage created by myself to give impact to the silent film, contains looped extracts from an unreleased instrumental version of for what it's worth by Buffallo springfield and are used to give historical context under the terms of 'Fair use'. The Sunset Strip curfew riots, also known as the "hippie riots," were a series of early counterculture-era clashes that took place between police and young people on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, California, beginning in the summer of 1966 and continuing on and off through the early 1970s. In 1966, annoyed residents and business owners in the district had encouraged the passage of strict (10:00pm) curfew and loitering laws to reduce the traffic congestion resulting from crowds of young club patrons This was perceived by young, local rock music fans as an infringement on their civil rights, and on Saturday, November 12, 1966, fliers were distributed along the Strip inviting people to demonstrate later that day. Hours before the protest one of L.A's rock 'n' roll radio stations announced there would be a rally at Pandora's Box, a club at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Crescent Heights, and cautioned people to tread carefully The Times reported that as many as 1,000 youthful demonstrators, including such celebrities as Jack Nicholson and Peter Fonda (who was afterward handcuffed by police), erupted in protest against the perceived repressive enforcement of these recently invoked curfew laws. This provided the basis for the teen exploitation film Riot on Sunset Strip, and inspired multiple songs:

Bernard's paintings record the story of the Irish post war emigrants to the UK who helped rebuild this country and to construct the new motorways, power stations and pipelines. They also show some of the women who emigrated, often to work for the NHS. His paintings also explore the largely forgotten Ireland of the 1950s and 60s before it was transformed by modernity. Allen Shelton's "Where the North Sea Touches Alabama" (On sale by University of Chicago Press: http://www.press.uchicago.edu) is a work of sociological fictocriticism that explores not only the author’s relationship to the artist but his physical, historical, and social relationship to northeastern Alabama, in rare style. "In Christ there is no East or West, North or South, and the North Sea touches Alabama." Part of the sermon by a Sand Mountain preacher, 1979. This utterance by a preacher inexplicably came true when the dead artist Patrik Keim’s coffin may have been uncovered two hundred miles from where it was interned in an ancient beaver swamp in Alabama by dozer operator who quickly reburied the miraculous coffin. The artist Keim was obsessed by the North Sea. The report of the investigation into the event is titled Where the North Sea Touches Alabama by Allen Shelton, University of Chicago Press, 2013. The fictocritical account is part memoir, part steam-punk theory, and a hard edged psychic materialist analysis of the possible return.
