Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (sometimes abbreviated to ST: DS9, DS9 or DSN) is a science fiction television series set in the Star Trek universe. The show is set in the Milky Way galaxy, in the years 2369–2375. In contrast to the setting of the other Star Trek TV shows, it takes place on a space station instead of a starship, so as not to have two series with starships at the same time (the starship USS Defiant was introduced in season 3, but the station remained the primary setting for the show). This made continuing story arcs and the appearance of recurring characters much more feasible. The show is noted for its well-developed characters, its original, complex plots, religious themes and for starring the only black captain of all the Star Trek series to be featured as the show's protagonist. The series concentrated on darker themes, less physical exploration of space, and (in later seasons) an emphasis on many aspects of war. DS9 premiered in 1993 and ran for seven seasons until 1999. Rooted in Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek universe, it was the first Trek spin-off created without direct involvement from Roddenberry, although he did give his blessing to the concept shortly before his death in 1991. The series was created by Rick Berman and Michael Piller, at the request of Brandon Tartikoff, and was produced by Paramount Television. Key writers, in addition to Berman and Piller, included showrunner Ira Steven Behr, Robert Hewitt Wolfe, Ronald D. Moore, Peter Allan Fields, Bradley Thompson, David Weddle, Hans Beimler, and René Echevarria. DS9 began while Star Trek: The Next Generation was still on the air and there were a few crossover episodes between the two shows. The station's first appearance in TNG was during the sixth season episode "Birthright". In addition, two Next Generation characters, Miles O'Brien and (from Season 4 onwards) Worf, became regular members of DS9. The station also appeared in the Star Trek: Voyager pilot episode, "Caretaker". Conceived in 1991 shortly before Gene Roddenberry's death, DS9 centers on the formerly Cardassian space station Terok Nor. After the Bajorans have liberated themselves from the long and brutal Cardassian Occupation, the United Federation of Planets is invited by the Bajoran Provisional Government to administer joint control of the station, which initially orbits Bajor. The station is renamed Deep Space Nine. In the pilot, the station is moved near the mouth of the newly discovered Bajoran wormhole, allowing access to the distant, unexplored Gamma Quadrant. It quickly becomes a center for exploration, interstellar trade, political maneuvering, and eventually open conflict. DS9 was well received by critics, with TV Guide describing it as "the best acted, written, produced and altogether finest" Star Trek series. Despite debuting in the shadow of The Next Generation, DS9 achieved a considerable level of success in its own right. According to a press release through Newswire on April 7, 1999, it was the #1 syndicated show in the United States for adults 18–49 and 25–54. The characters of DS9 were featured on the cover of TV Guide ten times during its run, including several "special issue" editions in which a set of four different-covered versions were printed. Following the DVD release of Star Trek: The Next Generation in 2002, DS9 was released on DVD beginning in February 2003. DS9 was released in boxed sets of one season each which were released approximately one month apart. Each season contains several "special features", including a biographical look at a main character, information from make-up designer Michael Westmore on how various aliens were created, and interviews with cast members and crew members. http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Space-Complete-Series/dp/B00062RCC6

Our long-time friend Ron Burch took Allison and me to Yuri's Night at the California Science Center in LA to celebrate 52 years of manned spaced flight since Yuri Gagarin first orbited the Earth in 1961. It was a hoot. We met a lot of fun and interesting people and shared our common interests in technology, astronomy, space travel, Star Trek, and general geekiness. The center piece of the event was the space shuttle Endeavour which is currently positioned horizontally in a temporary location. She will remain horizontal until 2017 when they complete the structure to mount it vertically with an external tank and a pair of solid rocket boosters. from TeeVees Greatest / Added

Star Trek: Voyager is a science fiction television series, set in the Star Trek universe. The show takes place during the 2370s, and begins on the far side of the Milky Way galaxy, 75,000 light-years from Earth. It follows the adventures of the Starfleet vessel USS Voyager, which becomes stranded in the Delta Quadrant while pursuing a renegade Maquis ship. The two ships' crews merge aboard Voyager, to make the estimated 75-year journey home. The show was created by Rick Berman, Michael Piller and Jeri Taylor, and is the fifth incarnation of Star Trek, which began with the 1960s series Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry. It was produced for seven seasons, from 1995 to 2001, and is the only Star Trek TV series with a female captain, Kathryn Janeway (played by Kate Mulgrew), as a main character. In the pilot episode, "Caretaker", USS Voyager departs station Deep Space Nine on a mission into the treacherous Badlands to find a missing ship piloted by a team of Maquis rebels, which the Vulcan Lt. Tuvok, Voyager's security officer, has secretly infiltrated. While in the Badlands, the Voyager is chased down and eventually enveloped by a powerful energy wave, which ends up damaging Voyager, killing several of its crew, and stranding the ship on the far side of the galaxy, known as the Delta Quadrant, more than 70,000 light-years from Earth. Voyager eventually finds the Maquis ship, and the two crews reluctantly agree they must join forces to survive their long journey home. Chakotay, leader of the Maquis group, becomes first officer. B'Elanna Torres, a half-human/half-Klingon Maquis, becomes chief engineer. Tom Paris, whom Janeway released from a Federation prison to help her find the Maquis ship, is made Voyager's helm officer. Due to the deaths of the ship's entire medical staff, The Doctor, an Emergency Medical Hologram designed for short-term use only, is employed as the ship's doctor and Chief Medical Officer. Neelix, a Talaxian scavenger, and Kes, a young Ocampan, natives of the Delta Quadrant, are welcomed aboard as the ship's chef/morale officer, and The Doctor's medical assistant respectively. Due to the great distance from Federation space, the Delta Quadrant is unexplored and Voyager truly is going where no human has gone before. As the ship sets out on its projected 75-year journey home, the crew passes through regions belonging to various species indigenous to the Delta Quadrant, such as the barbaric and belligerent Kazon; the organ-harvesting, disease-ravaged Vidiians; the nomadic hunter-race the Hirogen; the fearsome, scorpion-like Species 8472 from a fluid-space realm; and most notably the Borg, as Voyager has to move through large areas of Borg-controlled space in later seasons. They also encounter perilous natural phenomena such as a nebulous area called the Nekrit Expanse ("Night", fifth season), a large area of empty space called the Void ("The Void", seventh season), wormholes, dangerous nebulae, and other anomalies. http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Voyager-Complete-Series/dp/B00062IDDS

This footage was taken on the 5th and 6th of July 2014 at Oz Comic Con Melbourne. I borrowed my girlfriend’s camera with the intention of taking a few photos but instead decided to film anything I found interesting. When I checked the footage later, I realised I had unconsciously filmed enough to create the suggestion of a dreamlike journey through our collective fantasy imagination. Written, Filmed, Edited, Produced and Directed by Adam Basile. The camera was a Sony Cyber-shot Exmor R 10.2mp DSC-TX5 filmed at 720p 29.97fps. Edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 & Photoshop CS6.
