‘The Animated Document’ University Brief: To create a 1-3 minute animation, exploring issues of narrative structure, representation, and/or popular culture in the progression of ideas derived from observations on a specific environment through to a final production. ‘Urban Kingdom’ is an exclusive insight into some of the more secluded locations that are inhabited by the sub-culture known as Graffiti. Using recorded observation as a base for my animated experiments, I set out to make a visually engaging piece of work, capturing a true essence of graffiti writing, how it’s done, and where it can be found. All the while, showing how a dash of colour and a lick of paint can give life to a dead and decaying place. Response: Ben Wahab (Photographer and Digital Artist) “hey man, that is SERIOUS! it has a really atmospheric and documentary feel about it. can i ask: was the graffiti shot time lapse, or in photoshop? e.g. was it real wall, or was it digital canvas? Either way it works really well, and must have taken forever. i have made simple artwork like this and i know how time consuming it is!! clearly u got mad skill, and more than a handful of patience! there's some real talent in there mate, keep it up!” Peter Kenny Wynd (Graffiti Enthusiast) “A really good edit there, I really like the dark undertone throughout, it really gives a sense of raw atmosphere. Good choice of music and quotes which give the film pace. My only criticism would be that it could do with a more consistent theme/focus/storyline throughout the video as it jumped between a few different subjects throughout.”+ More details
