On May 1st, 2015, Beny J. Primm Medical Group, LLC launched its "Let's Give Them Their Life Back" crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo.com. You can view it at: www.igg.me/at/bjp-medical-group. The aim of the campaign is to eliminate the stigma associated with drug addiction and drug treatment. Beny J. Primm Medical Group is of the view that addiction is a medical disease and that people suffering from addiction should not be stigmatized or criminalized. They should be treated no differently than people suffering from other similar diseases like hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and arthritis. In support of this view, they are creating pathways to drug treatment that are no different than pathways to treatment for other illnesses. People suffering from addiction will have access to private physicians and behavioral health therapist who utilize the latest advancements in medical and behavioral health treatment while at the same time maintain the privacy of their patient's addiction. The goal is to make drug treatment part of routine care at private physicians' offices and at outpatient chemical dependency clinics and, in turn, reduce the stigma associated with drug addiction and drug treatment. Go to our Indiegogo campaign page at: www.igg.me/at/bjp-medical-group to learn more about this campaign. Or go to the Beny J. Primm Medical Group's website at: www.bjpmedicalgroup.com.

Mass media is the main form of communication within modern society. It is unfortunate that the medias portrayal of the ideal human is essentially unachievable and imaginary. But what is even more unfortunate and extremely alarming is the medias portrayal of deviance; not a mythical, horrifying, imaginary creature, instead a terrifyingly exaggerated, inaccurate, and unreal version of something that is very real- mental illness. Inaccurate and negative images of mental illness pervade various mediums of media: movies, television shows, news outlets, and books. These inaccurate and negative portrayals of mental illness within the media lead to stigmatization within the general public as well as within the mentally ill themselves. The impact of this stigma is detrimental to our society.
