This was my entry for the D&AD student awards. The brief was to create a promo and sting to promote E4's "Monday Night Movie" feature with the theme of "guilty pleasures". For this TV promo, I worked with the specific "guilty pleasure" theme of looking at porn. My idea was to have a character looking at dirty stuff on his computer and craning his neck to get a better view. But in doing this, his neck becomes permanently stuck in that position. He faces ridicule from everyone until he meets someone with the same predicament and they get together. Their neck condition turns out not to be so much of a burden when it turns out that E4 decide to start broadcasting in "sideways vision" and normal folk have to lift and rotate their TV sets to accommodate this. It's easy to see why my entry was unsuccessful, the narrative and idea I wanted to convey doesn't translate clearly. Partly because of the medium (I feel that using live-action & actors would've worked better) and I don't really have strong animation/illustration skills, and also because of having to fit everything into a 30 second time limit, which I wasn't entirely accustomed to. I did originally have a voiceover for this, but it didn't really work too well so I removed it. That's another reason why the narrative isn't so clear. Music is by the awesome Rob Hague a.k.a Orenji: http://www.myspace.com/orenjimusic

This is my response to the animation brief, sponsored by the Science Museum, for the D&AD Student Awards 2009. The brief states: Create a short animation (no more than 90 seconds) that will capture the imagination of 8-14-year-olds, taking the bizarre, wonderful, non-existent existence of the black hole as your starting point. When I visited the Science Museum as part of my research, it was clear that the thing children were most excited by was doing the hands on experiments and creating the science for themselves. For this reason my concept is all about showing children experiments that they can do, and will (hopefully) want to do, at home. My aim is to get them to experiment with science for themselves, and to get them to question how and why things happen. My work has been selected as being amongst the best entries of the year, and has been awarded 'In-Book' status, and so will be featured in the 2009 Student Annual!

Student work. First Prize - 2009 D&AD Student Awards. The brief was to communicate how eBay delivers “Shopping worth talking about”. We created a service called "find it". When you come across something you like, take a photo and send it to "find it". In return you’ll get a message with the best match on eBay.
