It's hard to beat recent conditions. Thanks to last week's two-foot snowstorm, it's mid-March and we're still carving on mid-winter-like snow. If it weren't for the recent sale of next year's season passes, one might not even realize that spring is in the air. Who needs daisies and marigolds when you can purchase your 2014-15 season pass now and start skiing for free tomorrow. Deal ends April 30, 2014. http://www.sundayriver.com/ for more information.

Newry, Maine (March 30, 2014) – The Jay 1 Fire Department (from Jay, Maine) won Sunday’s 24th Annual Firefighters’ Race, part of the Firefighters’ Race and Eat the Heat Chili Cookoff, at Sunday River Resort. Jay 1 beat out Wolfeboro, N.H.’s team by just 0.71 seconds. Ten teams from around New England competed in the event, which raised money for Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation. This year, Maine Adaptive and Sunday River have opted to donate the race’s proceeds ($1,000) to “A Lieutenant Walsh - Firefighter Kennedy Memorial Fund,” in memory of the firefighters who were lost in last week’s Boston fire. For the event, teams of five firefighters in full gear raced down a giant slalom course, toting 50 feet of fire hose. Teams included both skiers and snowboarders. Jay 1 (one of two teams from Jay) won the race on the Lower Tempest trail with a time of 26.73—more than 10 seconds faster than last year’s winning time of 38.71 seconds. Jay Fire Department finished second last year to the Newry Fire Department. Wolfeboro, N.H. came in second this year with a time of 27.44 and third place went to Chisholm, who clocked in at 27.68. Maine Adaptive’s 29th Annual Ski-A-Thon, which also took place this weekend, has exceeded expectations and raised more than $328,270 in pledges. The group is still accepting pledges, so that number will continue to grow. For more information on Sunday River’s Eat the Heat Chili Cookoff and Firefighters’ Race, visit www.sundayriver.com. Video Games Event continues through New England with the third stop of the series at Sunday River. On March 2nd six teams converged at the Sunday River jib park, super-pipe, and Rocking Chair terrain park to get as much material as they could in just one day. Keeping with current media events, the VGE staff though it would be a fun idea to include a "Harlem Shake" into the video shot list. Kids we asked to get the shake in some part of their video, and we kept the creativity part open for interpretation. Check out this stops edits, live on the VGE webpage: http://www.videogamesevent.com/vote-snowboard-ski.php
