1. Portland Sunday Parkways NE - 2011

My ride to and on the last Portland Sunday Parkways of 2011 in NE Portland. The rain started shortly after leaving home and seemed to last until just before I reached the course at NE Cully. On the course, the sun came out for a bit here and there. My ride to was also nearly as car-free as the course. This was the first use of my POV camera in the rain and I learned I need to check the lens once in a while - sorry for the rain smudges. Camera: V.I.O. POV HD mounted on the stem Editor : PowerDirector v9 (64bit) Music : Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head (B.J. Thomas) Nothing But You (Chris Jennings/Les Hemstock/Paul Van Dyk)

Five times a summer, in different parts of the city, Portland closes a few streets to cars and funny thing happens: people of all ages come rushing out to play in the streets. And man is it inspiring, as I think our film for Sunday Parkways captures pretty well. To really capture the spirit of the event, we knew we had to be in it, not alongside it. So we asked Bill Stites to pilot us on the back of his awesome creation, the electric Truck Trike (http://www.stitesdesign.com/). That allowed us to talk with people as they enjoyed the event -- and with the fluidity that, I think, makes you feel you're there as well. But what an amazing project for a filmmaker: to see so many parts of a great city so close up, and better, such a diversity of faces, all incredulously happy to be, well, playing in the street - their largest public space, our longest park. I love this place. After enjoying another great Sunday Parkways (June 2012) in North Portland, I was riding home along NE Ainsworth St., a popular bicycling street with a large island separating East and West traffic. Only after I was home and reviewing my videos did I see how nice a couple of drivers were about being behind me.
