    • Westboro Baptist Church Gets Legally Powned on First Amendment Rights

      03:37

      from Alexandra Cardinale Added 75 0 0

The Westboro Baptist Church was ordered by the Supreme Court that their typically offensive and harsh picketing outside military funerals is now banned. Following the landmark decision by the Supreme Court on First Amendment freedom of speech rights, Westboro Baptist Church's hyper anti-gay rights views are to be kept slightly away from locations where the grieving families of American soldiers who served in the military are. Following their insane protests, people dressed as zombies came in a counter protest movement, not in the Church's hometown of Topeka, Kansas but in Washington, completely outnumbering and overshadowing the far right congregation. The Supreme Court Thursday warned the Frontier Corps to produce missing persons or face criminal action against FC personnel nominated in the FIR for their alleged involvement in the abduction and enforced disappearances of people in Balochistan. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-13-16380-Produce-the-missing-or-face-punishment-SC-warns-FC Heading a three-member bench hearing the law and order case on Balochistan, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has made it clear he does not believe the province can be saved unless the citizens of the country play their part in finding a just solution to the crisis. The chief justice is clearly right in making this point. Balochistan is afflicted with multi-tiered problems that will need a huge national effort rather than that of a group of individuals or parties to sort them out. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-8-123075-Saving-Balochistan Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif Thursday said his party would strongly oppose any conspiracy to delay the general elections for a year.Talking to a delegation of PML-Q local leaders from Multan who had joined the PML-N, he said the government's confrontation with the judiciary would damage democracy. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-13-16373-PML-N-to-oppose-any-plot-to-delay-polls-Nawaz President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday inaugurated monsoon tree plantation campaign by planting an olive tree sapling at Aiwan-e-Sadr. In order to motivate general public to plant more trees in the country, tree planting campaigns are organized every year during spring and monsoon seasons. During Monsoon 2012, about 30 million saplings are planned to be planted in the country. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-2-123023-Zardari-plants-olive-sapling-to-mark-monsoon-plantation

                  • Law's annulment doesn't threaten system: Supreme Court

                    09:35

                    from geoinformer Added 11 0 0

The Supreme Court, which on Thursday resumed hearing of petitions against the recently-enacted contempt of court law, observed that it was the job of judges to give a verdict, adding that the whole system would not be threatened if one law was struck down. The chief justice also added that it was not the court's concern who was not letting parliament function and that the legislature and judiciary were doing their own respective jobs. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-13-16366-Laws-annulment-doesnt-threaten-system-SC Four key clauses of the new contempt law, currently facing challenge in the Supreme Court, appear to be areas of major concern for lawyers as well as the apex court as they impinge hard on the independence of judiciary and dilute the powers of the Chief Justice of Pakistan. The judges, forming part of the five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, have also passed remarks and comments on the controversial clauses, whose stay in the statute book seems unlikely in the opinion of legal experts. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-2-123021-The-mischievous-clauses-of-new-Contempt-Law The judiciary should have complete independence and be kept away from personal likes and dislikes, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain said Thursday while talking to In-Charge MQM International Secretariat Mustafa Azizabadi and Joint In-Charge Muhammad Ashfaq. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-2-123045-Judiciary-should-have-complete-independence-Altaf Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan observed on Thursday that the federal government had framed the contempt law to protect its own interests and was paying little attention to legislation for public interest. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-7-123007-Contempt-law-meant-to-protect-governments
