We stayed in two coastal towns while in El Salvador. One was for tourists and the other for travellers. It took us a hot minute to realise where we belonged. The travellers town was; A rocky river mouth right, A local shredder who looked like Rob Machado, ran a hostel on the beach and ripped a stand up boogie board. He told me this story of when Tom Curren gave him props for his skill so this guy asked if he wanted to smoke a joint. Tom said no and this guy paddled off. He’s a legend. The local food one dollar for a meal saved my budget of $10 a day including rent. Jumping into rivers. Slipping down rock slides in the ultimate Combo Tres. Fun waves but not the swell we waited for. So we left for Mexico with only the best memories.

The wooden house on top the hill is ours. Nestled into fruitful jungle with a wedge view of the ocean and no other building in sight. A tree stands weary with red water apples. The fruit is juicy and ripe. Plantain trees with ripe green fruit are here. Olli cooks it smashed and double fried or fried with sugar and Canadian syrup. Bread fruit nuts are readily available. We cook these sliced into wedges and fried with salt or seasoning. They taste like potato wedges. Coconut trees are abundant. We have a boat and fishing rods. A fresh water creek runs by 3 minutes walk through the jungle out the back of the house. It is clean and crisp. There is a white cat with green eyes that sneaks into the house looking for food. A middle aged stocky man and his grey haired mother arrive everyday to maintain their hilltop farm. This is their house and the signs are everywhere. There is a picture on the wall that is of a tropical scene and the heads of family members have been cut out of other photos and pasted into these fake lives. We are the only white people on this Indian Reservation, in Panama. Children stare. Adults stare. There is surf nearby. My friends and I are the only ones in the water.

A journey to the most remote coast in South Island, New Zealand. On this hidden coastline lie perfect points, beachbreaks, and rocky, A-frame peaks. A scenic flight or a five-day hike will get you there, but you won't be able to unlock the secrets of the coastline unless you have someone to guide you. It's a steady six-hour uphill climb to reach the main divide of the Southern Alps by foot. Steep peaks and forest-lined cliffs frame each side of the valley for which this area is famous. At the summit, the view west spans over 8,000 square miles of protected alpine lands that make up New Zealand's Fiordland National Park. Featuring Ricardo Christie, Peter Devries, Noah Cohen, and Nico Manos. Read the full story in our October Issue: http://www.surfermag.com/magazine/october-2013/

This journey will begin in the icy and majestic Lofoten island, deep in the Arctic circle, winding down the West coast of Europe and ending in the hot and dry stretches of Southern Europe's Algarve. The aim is to find the very best waves the route has to offer, and tell a story from the point of view of the surfers who live and travel there. This is one of the most diverse cross continental journeys a modern day surfer can take. It will be about uniqueness, but it will also be about similar threads that tie the overall European surfing experience together. The tune is by the talented Scott Nixon Watch this space!
