*If you have the means, enjoy this video with headphones* Tanner Goods is a small leather goods manufacturer located in Portland, Oregon. They work hard to manage multiple storefronts and offer a wide range of hand crafted leather accessories. They thrive on their attention to detail and appreciation for top quality products. In the future they plan to expand their product line to include non-leather goods such as eyewear and time pieces, while maintaining their strong roots in simplicity and utilitarian product design. You can purchase their products online at: www.tannergoods.com Or find them in person here: 1308 W. Burnside Portland, Ore. 97209 __________________________________________ This video serves as a documentation of craft that I have long been interested in as a Graphic Designer, and someone who appreciates hand made goods. It is wonderful to see a company that thrives in the "small batch" business model, and I hope they continue to make good things for a long time coming. The process of making something as simple as a belt can remind us of the roots of what this country was founded on: Creativity, Entrepreneurship, and Craftsmanship. Hope you enjoy it! Special Thanks to: Tanner Goods - (Thanks for the interview Sam) Alex Toyoshima - (The guy making the belt) - Without you, this wouldn't have happened, so thanks for being so patient and letting me poke around with my camera. || www.alextoyoshima.com Alex R. Filmed over two days, we've cut together a handful of time-lapse shots featuring our crew working a typical 8 hour workday at our Leftbank Workshop. For those who haven't visited our space before, our production is broken into 4 categories and varies in size depending on how many styles fall within that category [as well as how many units we need to produce each season]. This is a quick glimpse into what a typical day looks like for us. Big thanks to Adam Guggenheim and Luke DeLong for helping document a day in the life at Tanner Goods. Enjoy.

Sometimes the journey is the payoff. We make and create, always working towards the final product, and then when we’re done, we start on something new. But what comes next is often determined by what we see and stumble upon along the way. With this video series we set out both to document how we create and to give a glimpse into the life of our products in the world. Short No 001 begins with two interconnected processes: the design and construction of our Wildnerness Rucksack, and the origin of a simple adventure. Often, the destination isn’t as important as the simple joy of the preparation and the setting out. What awaits is unknown, but with a collection of trusted essentials close at hand discoveries are certain, and time spent exploring is the best sort of time. Here’s to the journey.

Step into our workshop any given day and you’ll be greeted by three things: the rich smell of leather, a chorus of machinery humming along and a slobbering dog (or two). While it’s difficult to accurately share the smell and slobber experience, we were able to spend some time capturing the sounds within our workshop. So take a look at our newest short video to see and hear what it’s like to create at Tanner Goods -- our mix of machinery, both old and new, is truly music to our ears.

In our second video, I was inspired by Tellason's straightforward mantra of just doing things the right way. I initially wanted to tell their story through personal narration, however after speaking with them over coffee, I was inspired by the broad implications of their business practices. Not only do they represent San Francisco from a product and quality standpoint, but they represent an ethos of doing something right in the spirit of honesty in quality and passion. I involved Tenue de Nîmes & Son of a Stag to add a narrative of experience built from years of interaction with multiple brands of denim. Like every individual denim brand, these stores have their own perspective. A perspective which helped to also tell the story of manufacturing denim in the USA. The Danner Mountain Light Lownsdale is the first collaboration between two Portland, Oregon companies with a deep commitment to lasting quality: Danner and Tanner Goods. The Lownsdale is constructed of genuine Chromexcel leather, from the world famous Horween tannery in Chicago, and is the first of its kind to be created at the factory in Portland. Chromexcel is famous for its luxurious and unique pull-up character. Each hide takes roughly 28 days to be matured and ready for use, and develops an amazing patina with age and use. The Lownsdale takes its name from Daniel H. Lownsdale, one of the founders of Portland, who established the city’s first tannery around 1845. Interestingly, its location is now the home of the Portland Timbers soccer (football if you’re true to the game) club. Anyone who knows us knows that when we root, we root for the Timbers.

The Danner Mountain Trail Left Bank marks the second collaborative effort between ourselves and Danner, a company which mirrors our dedication to quality craftsmanship and appreciates the value and intricate beauty of a well-made product that's worth holding onto. Like all Danner Stumptown boots, the Mountain Trail Left Bank is 100% crafted in Danner’s Portland, Ore. factory and features the highest quality materials and componentry. This video follows Adam Haynes, a good friend and artist that grew up with Tanner Goods co-founders Sam Huff and Jevan Lautz in Sisters, Ore. Adam is an incredibly talented illustrator, and much of his subject matter is inspired by the time he spends outdoors. We spent a couple days in the Three Sisters Wilderness wear testing the Left Bank boot, and documented the experience for Haynes to use as reference material for his latest painting. As part of the launch, each customer that purchases a pair of Left Bank boots by October 19th, 2012 will be entered into a drawing to win Adam Haynes’ original artwork featured in the video. We’ll be hosting a party to celebrate the launch of the Left Bank Mountain Trail Friday, September 28th from 7-10 pm at our retail store in Portland, Ore. What calls on us to get out, get away, get beyond our day to day? What is it we are hoping to discover there, in the way far out? We don’t know. And that’s why we keep going, why we keep packing more work into the week so we can skip town on Friday and find a way into the woods or the desert or to the ocean. Because we know that whatever it is that’s out there, it’s part of what fills us up and keeps us going. We’ve never been shy about our love of the Pacific Northwest landscape. To honor that love, and make sure we do it justice in our ongoing explorations, we’ve partnered again with Danner to design a special make up of the Mountain Light silhouette -- one that’s suited to the rugged topography of the place we call home. To test drive this new boot, we took some cameras and some packs to five distinct, east-of-the-Cascades locations: Fort Rock, Steens Mountain, South Sister, Mt. Jefferson and the Painted Hills. We hope you like the results. Hand crafted in the USA to Danner’s exacting standards, this latest offering in our ongoing relationship with a company we admire is built to handle whatever you throw at it.
