                    02:02

                    from Kitty Von-Sometime / Added

Episode 13 of The Weird Girls Project took place in volcano hit Þórsmörk and surrounding areas, producing a piece for Imogen Heap's Love the Earth score. Imogen gave Kitty two musical pieces and so the Episode is in two parts. Kitty had wanted to work in Þórsmörk for several years but the costs of specialised transport made it unattainable. Following a fundraiser through the Kickstarter.com website the Project gained sponsorship from both Hostelling International Iceland and Reykjavík Excursions to enable the location to be possible. Pegasus also part sponsored the equipment which enabled Kitty to use the best available film equipment. This Episode was gifted with perfect weather and the cast and crew of 36 were taken on a truly grueling day's filming. The experience was very emotional for all the women involved and it was referred to as a magical moment in their lives. Part I is filmed around the stunning waterfall Seljalandsfoss and was incredibly difficult to film both from an equipment perspective and due to the freezing glacial water the women were soaked in. This piece is Kitty's personal favourite so far. Part II (soon to be uploaded) took place around Húsadalur and follows the women drawing energy from water worship as they follow the river to its source and rebirth into strong and free spirits. 05:57

                      from Kitty Von-Sometime / Added

---------------------------------------------------------------- This behind the scenes film was shot during the photo shoot of a collaboration between The Weird Girls Project and UN Women on February 05th, 2011 in Reykjavík, Iceland. This video was filmed, directed, and edited by Manny Santiago. ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Weird Girls Project is an ongoing art experiment created and produced concept artist Kitty Von-Sometime. It evolves 'Episode' by 'Episode' and the participants mix between those involved from the beginning and new members increasing with every event. Each Episode is planned for approximately three months with the participants knowing as little as is possible about the event excluding the date, this includes the concept, location and costumes. As standard there will be a photo shoot and they are aware they will be filmed. The main element of the project is 'reaction to the unknown'. Media is produced from each Episode but the project also focuses on the event itself and how the women react, improvise and morph within costume learning about their power of self combined with the strength of coming together as a group. The women are varying in ages, backgrounds and experience, and do not necessarily know each other before the day. The Project involves ordinary women rather than professional actresses or models and part of the inspiration was to encourage a gain in self confidence within young women, especially focusing around body issues. ----------------------------------------------------------------- In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization's goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment. ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.theweirdgirlsproject.com http://www.unwomen.org Please note: The copyrights of the music in this video belong to RCA Records, not the film maker. "Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves" is performed by The Eurythmics with Aretha Franklin and was released as a single in 1992.
