We like our cycling but this ain't Alpe D'Huez, and this ain't the Tour De France, this is the good ole U.S. of A. In the land of wrestling and demolition derby we take a different approach, more of a peanut gallery than a cheering section. In keeping with the traditions of L'autobus we posted up on Little Cottonwood Canyon to take in the Queen Stage of TofU RCC style... bring on the Super Soakers and inhospitable foods

A solo attack up Little Cottonwood Canyon launched BMC Racing Team's Johann Tschopp of Switzerland to victory today at Stage Five presented by Exergy Development Group of the 2012 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. By hitting the finish line in four hours, 18 minutes and 20 seconds at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort first, the Swiss rider leaped from 14th on general classification to the overall race lead. Team NetApp’s Leopold Koenig (Czech Republic) pulled away from a chase group over the final kilometer to finish second, 43 seconds behind Tschopp. American Joe Dombrowski of Bontrager Livestrong placed third, just 47 seconds back. Tschopp’s victory shook up the general classification as he supplanted Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda’s Christian Vande Velde (USA), who now sits in second on G.C., 38 seconds off the pace. Radi Shack-Nissan-Trek’s Matthew Busche (USA) is third on G.C., 43 seconds back. Koenig and Dombrowski round out the top five, at 53 and 58 seconds back, respectively. Sunday, August 12 is the final day of the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, Stage Six presented by UnitedHealthcare. The decisive stage of the six-day race covers just 76.7 miles (123.5 kilometers), but will be demanding with 6,844 feet (2,086 meters) of climbing over several relentless mountain passes. Huge crowds are expected in downtown Park City, home to several events during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, which is the official host venue for Sunday’s start and finish lines. After departing Park City at 12:10 p.m. MT, the race travels through Kamas en route to a new Category 2 climb in the Wolf Creek Ranch development. After the XO Communications Sprint Line in Kamas, the racers will encounter the final Ski Utah King of the Mountains climb over Empire Pass Road, which is classified Hors Categorie (most difficult). A rapid descent will bring the race back to Park City for a finish on south Main Street, estimated to finish between 3:15- 3:45 p.m. MT.

After chasing a six-rider breakaway for more than 120 miles, American Jake Keough of UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling won a thrilling sprint finish in downtown Salt Lake City at Stage Four presented by Adobe at the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah Friday afternoon. Keough edged out Liquigas-Cannondale’s Marco Benfatto (Italy) to the line in front of EnergySolutions Arena. Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda’s Tyler Farrar (USA) finished third. A bunch sprint of 17 riders, which included the G.C. leader Christian Vande Velde of Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda, covered the 134.2-mile (216.2-kilometer) course in four hours, 47 minutes and six seconds. A six-rider breakaway escaped early and built a lead as great as 10 minutes racing through the Rush Valley and the historic Pony Express road. It took the peloton, led in part by UnitedHealthcare, almost 125 miles to chase down the break within the final kilometer on the downtown streets of the Utah’s capital city. The bunch sprint means there was no significant change in the overall standings at the quartet of Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda riders atop the leaderboard are still safely there. Vande Velde remains in the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Overall Leader’s jersey. His teammates Tommy Danielson (USA) and Dave Zabriskie (USA) are now three seconds back, in second and third respectively on G.C.
